Wesely to lead ramble through fall forest

DAMASCUS, PA — Naturalist Ed Wesely will lead a walk on a one-mile trail through the Damascus Township Forest on Saturday, October 4 at 10:15 a.m., highlighting how plants and animals get ready for the cold and snow.

The scenic trail enters an oak and hickory forest, proceeds around a swamp and through an ancient hemlock grove. The brilliant leaves, mosses, berries and seeds are plentiful because of all the wet weather this year.

Dress in warm clothing and bring water and binoculars. Meet at the Delaware Highlands Conservancy Butterfly Barn Nature Center, one mile south of Milanville on the Pennsylvania River Road, at 10:00 a.m., or at forest parking area at 10:15. To reach the Damascus Forest from Milanville, take the PA River Road to MacCubbin Road. Drive one-half mile uphill to the Damascus Township Forest.
