RUSHVILLE, NY — Heading north to Marcus Whitman High School on September 20 provided the Sullivan West Bulldogs two great opportunities.

First, it gave them a preliminary run on this year’s state championship course. Second, it gave them a chance to test their mettle in a field of 30 schools and nearly 1,000 runners.

As a team, the girls came in fifth place behind Victor, John Jay, Mercy and Phoenix. April Ackermann did not compete due to a sore hamstring. Jessica Wagner finished 19th out of 200 girls with a time of 21:53. Jamie Clifford (22:06) placed 29th, Amanda Ward (22:16) came in 35th and Michelle Manzi (23:55) was 77th. Moselle DiPane (23:55) was 84th, Ashley Relyea (24:40) was 115th and Kim Parks (25:56) finished 132nd. Eleanor Bryan (26:12) and Rebecca Peters (26:47) finished 63rd and 72nd in the junior varsity race. The varsity races were limited to seven runners. Sullivan West, previously unranked, moved to sixth place in the state in Class C.

Sullivan West runners Mike VanWagenen (18:37), left, Rob Ward (19:29) and Trevor Kreznar (20:26), in white jerseys, placed first, second and third in a cross country meet with Liberty and Monticello runners at a meet held in Jeffersonville on September 24. (Click for larger image)

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — In a low-key local meet on September 24, the Bulldog boys and girls easily handled Liberty and Monticello. TULLY, NY — The Bulldogs’ girls win at the Tully Invitational without their number two runner Jessica Wagner was impressive. The team’s score of 73 edged Pulaski (74), Tully (78) and New Fane (102).
