JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Though Marlboro came into the September 23 match against Sullivan West with a losing record, the Lady Iron Dukes had already played some of its toughest competitors, including Goshen and Cornwall.

Sullivan West came out firing early and scored first on a shot by Heather Lander at 8:10 that sailed into the corner past Marlboro goalie Caitlyn Heinzinger. The junior keeper turned aside Sullivan West’s other 12 shots during the game.

The Bulldog’s lead was short lived as Marlboro senior Jessica Congemi got the first of her four goals at 35:02 to tie the score. The teams remained deadlocked at halftime. Sullivan West’s goalie Amanda Patterson had 5 saves but could not stop Congemi, whose skill level and speed make her one of Division IV’s top players. Marlboro improved its record to 3-4 overall (2-2 OCIAA). Sullivan West dropped to 2-8 (1-3 OCIAA).

ELDRED, NY — In a game that could be described as exceptionally physical, the Yellowjackets got a pair of goals from Brittany Borstelmann and solo goals from Ayla Kelty, Kim French and Lauren Timan to defeat the Roscoe Blue Devils on September 25.

The victory was marred by the loss of Eldred’s Jenna Fredericks who left the game with a broken nose as a result of a collision with Roscoe’s Stephanie Houghtaling. The young Roscoe team had trouble clearing the ball and the Yellowjackets kept the pressure on Blue Devil eighth grade goalie Kasse Brock. Brock recorded 11 saves. Kelty’s unassisted goal came at 29:18 of the first half. Borstelmann’s first goal was made possible by a Jessica Cherry assist. Borstelmann scored at 14:46. Kim French added another score at 12:42 assisted by Jamie Schombs.

Borstelmann got on the board again at 19:33 of the second half and Timan added the last score at 8:88.

Eldred improved its record to 4-4 (3-2 OCIAA) while Roscoe remained winless at 0-7 (0-5 OCIAA).

Boys’ soccer

Eldred 5, Livingston Manor 4

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Eldred Yellowjackets recorded their first win of the season under new coach Joe Rubino in a hard-fought win over the Wildcats on September 24.

Rubino is new to Eldred and coaching soccer, but he is learning fast and the team shows improvement. The Yellowjackets got a pair of goals from Andrew Babula and Tyler Laput. Kyle Anthony added an additional score. Manor’s Shane Sherwood had three goals and Chris Lared added another. Eldred goalie Greg Fotiades recorded five saves. Manor’s goalie Jesse Meekins made four. Eldred’s win brought their record to 105 (1-1OCIAA) while Manor remained winless at 0-3 (0-3 OCIAA).
