Her daddy’s running
MONTICELLO —Three year-old Sara Sorensen was busy meeting people
who turned out on a rainy Broadway sidewalk last Wednesday as her father, former
Sullivan County Planning Commissioner Alan J. Sorensen, formally announced his
candidacy for the state Assembly.
The family affair continued in front of Gusar’s Pharmacy as
Jane Sorensen introduced her husband. Gusar’s had been the first façade renovation
in Sorensen’s Main Street Revitalization program.
“No one has worked harder to improve the lives of the people
of Sullivan County and no one will work harder for the 98th District,” she said.
As a phalanx of Republican Party leaders surrounded their son
at the podium, Harold and Theresa Sorensen, having driven down from their upstate
farm for the announcement, watched from the crowd.
“I’m very proud of him,” said Harold Sorensen. “He’s been a
hard worker all of his life.”
Sorensen and Democrat Aileen Gunther are opposing one another
for the last year in the term of the late Jacob Gunther.
