HARRIS, NY — CRMC’s Director of Laboratories, Joseph V. Napolitano, MD, FCAP, was recently appointed western New York’s division commissioner for the College of American Pathologists’ (CAP) commission on laboratory accreditation program.

His role will be to oversee continuing education for pathologists in their area to ensure quality control, documentation and administration. The CAP accredits laboratories in more than 83 percent of the top 100 rated major teaching institutions and large community hospitals, more than 50 percent of all U.S. hospital laboratories, and all major reference labs in this country.

The CRMC laboratory department was also named national first runner-up in the 2003 laboratory of the year award competition sponsored by Medical Laboratory Observer magazine.

Dr. Napolitano received his medical degree from the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy. He earned his undergraduate degree from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY, and is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

“It’s an honor to serve the College,” says Dr. Napolitano, who resides in Campbell Hall with his wife.
