Late night blaze

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — Dozens of firefighters from five area companies were called out just before midnight on August 4, when fire destroyed the former Mills boarding house on Lakeview Drive.

Highland Lake Fire Department Chief Rich McKean said the front of the 19th century three-story frame building was fully involved when he arrived on the scene. The boarding house, closed since the late fifties, was not occupied and there was no immediate cause for the fire.

Firefighters from Forestburgh, Lumberland, Shohola, PA and Yulan assisted at the scene along with the Eldred American Legion Ambulance Service.

White Lake and Sparrowbush firefighters were called to stand by in Yulan and Glen Spey.
