LACKAWAXEN, PA — PENNDOT advises drivers that traffic on PA Route 590 in the Lackawaxen area of Pike County is scheduled to be detoured on Tuesday (8/5). The detour is scheduled to begin at 6 AM and continue until approximately 5 PM on Tuesday (8/5). Traffic will be detoured onto State Route 1004 (Butcher Road) and State Route 1003 (Rowland Road). (See attached map.) Detour signs will be posted.

The detour is necessary so construction crews can move barriers and paint lines on the PA Route 590 bridge over the Lackawaxen River. Once the work is complete on Tuesday, PA Route 590 traffic will be shifted on the bridge so restoration work can continue. Traffic on the bridge will continue to be restricted to a single lane with a temporary signal allowing alternating directions of traffic to cross.

The rehabilitation of the six span bridge near the Zane Grey Museum includes resetting and painting of the existing steel beams and the construction of a new deck. The $2.2 million project also includes the paving of the roadway approaching the bridge.

The contractor is Nyleve Bridge Corporation of Emmaus, PA. The estimated completion of the bridge restoration project is the summer of 2004.
