River council
grants funded
NARROWSBURG, NY — Assemblyman Jacob Gunther announced last
week that the NYS Urban Development Corporation has approved $25,000 in funding
for the Upper Delaware Council’s Technical Assistance Project.
Funding will assist projects including refurbishing and improving
town halls in Cochecton, Highland and Lumberland and resurfacing Hook Road
in Deerpark.
In a related program, project applications for the UDC Technical
Assistance Grants (TAG) are being accepted from member towns through July
31.
While individual grants have been the rule in past, this year,
the Upper Delaware Visioning Committee is suggesting that interested towns
pool their TAG grant monies to develop a region-wide ridge-top preservation
ordinance that would be customized to each town which chooses to participate.
UDC will review all applications and interview project sponsors,
then announce the successful applicants in September.
Since the TAG program began in 1988, the Council has awarded
$491,291 to help fund 133 area projects furthering river management plan
goals.
