Edible mushrooms workshop offered
HONESDALE, PA — As the popularity of mushrooms continues to
increase, so has interest in growing gourmet mushrooms for a hobby or small
business. To help gardeners learn about finding and growing edible mushrooms,
Penn State Cooperative Extension in Wayne County and the Wayne County Master
Gardeners will sponsor a free workshop, “Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms:
Where to find them and how to grow them,” on Thursday, July 10 from 6:30
to 8:00 p.m. at the Rileyville Grange, ten miles north of Honesdale.
Fred Price, owner and operator of Fifth Floor Farm Kitchen,
will lead the seminar. Price has been raising and marketing mushrooms on
his farm in Jeffersonville, NY for over 15 years.

Calling all river rats
NARROWSBURG, NY — River rats of all species are encouraged
to decorate a river craft and navigate under the interstate bridge from New
York to the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River as a featured attraction
of the thirteenth annual River Fest, a celebration of arts, crafts and the
environment on Sunday, July 27.
Flotilla Challenge participants can register on the day of
the event between 10:00 and 10:45 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. launch at Narrowsburg’s
boat access, located next to the Firemen’s Field at the end of DeMauro Drive,
off Bridge Street. Anything water worthy qualifies. All participants must
wear a personal flotation device. There is no entry fee. Prizes will be awarded
for Best Overall Entry and Most Original Design.

Wildlife food plot workshop planned
HONESDALE, PA — Everyone loves to see wildlife, and what better
place to watch birds, deer and other wildlife than on your own property?
To help landowners learn about improving wildlife habitat, Penn State Cooperative
Extension in Wayne County and the Wayne Conservation District will sponsor
a workshop on creating and managing food plots for wildlife on Tuesday, July
8 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at State Game Lands 159, seven miles north of Honesdale.

Bridging the gap
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area invites all interested
educators to attend a one-day teachers workshop on July 8 from 9:00 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m. The workshop will introduce the park’s new geology curriculum
guide, “The Many Faces of Delaware Water Gap.”
Participants in the workshop will receive a free copy of the
text and the curriculum guide and will be eligible for Pennsylvania or New
Jersey continuing education hours.
