Parades, picnics and fireworks

Narrowsburg, NY

The Independence Day parade will line up on July 5 at 10:30 a.m. on Bridge Street by Narrowsburg Motor Sales and will proceed at 12:00 noon down Erie Avenue, then along Main Street, and on to the Firemen’s Field (Lander’s Campground), where a day full of activities will conclude with fireworks at dusk.

Fire trucks will be judged along the parade route. The fire department welcomes people to bring any fire trucks, marching units or floats.

In addition, beauty queens representing each fire department will be invited to enter a contest, in which beauty and writing ability will serve as criteria. Each contestant must write an essay about the improvements she would like to see in her town.

Firemen’s Field activities include the beauty queen contest and parade trophies at 1:30 p.m., a firematic competition at 2:30 p.m., Children’s games and contests at 3:00 p.m., a chicken BBQ from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and fireworks at dusk. Also, food, soda, beer and craft booths will be available as well as rides by L.B. Amusements of Faston, PA.  A local DJ will play music from 4:00 p.m. to dusk.

Honesdale, PA

Independence Day festivities begin in Central Park at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 with a variety of old-fashioned games and contests. Vendors will sell food, treats and trinkets on Court Street, next to the Park.

The Church Street Jazz Encounter will play at 6:30 p.m., and the patriotic music of the Crystal Band will start at 8:00 p.m. Also at 8:00, an auction will be held on the Court Street Crossing. Stilt walker/balloon artist Mari Lee Oriani and pantomime Skip Mendler will interact with the park crowd all evening.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., a cappella singers Kiley McDonald, Anne Myers and Sarah Jane Pugh, students at Honesdale High School, will usher in the Irving Cliff fireworks display with the national anthem. A rain date is planned for Saturday, July 5.

Hawley, PA: fireworks over Lake Wallenpaupack

The Lighthouse Harbor Marina, the Hawley Lake Wallenpaupack Chamber of Commerce and numerous area businesses and residents will sponsor an Independence Day fireworks display over Lake Wallenpaupack on Friday, July 4 at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Parking will be available in the high school parking lots and the bleachers will be open to spectators. Viewing will be available by boat. A 1000-foot perimeter will restrict the area surrounding the firing location. A rain date is planned for Saturday, July 5.

The Independence Day Parade will take place on Main Avenue on Friday, July 4 at 12:00 noon.

Port Jervis, NY

On Friday, July 4, at 7:00 p.m., the Declaration of Independence will be read out loud at Orange Square in Port Jervis for only the fifth time in more than 100 years. For those who wish to walk to the program, a procession will begin at Fort Decker at 127 West Main Street at 6:15 p.m.

The program, “The Birth of Liberty,” sponsored by the Minisink Valley Historical Society, the Office of the City Historian and the City of Port Jervis will review events leading up to the Declaration of Independence and what happened in the following years. Orange Square is one of the city’s most honored locations; it hosts Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean and Vietnam War memorials.

Monticello, NY

A fireworks extravaganza will be presented 15 minutes after the final race on Saturday, July 5 at the Monticello Raceway. Post time that night will be at 7:30 p.m. The event will mark Mighty M’s 32nd consecutive season of providing fireworks for Sullivan County.

The fireworks will kick off Saturday racing during the month of July.
