Woodstock site PAC is now Bethel Woods
LIBERTY, NY —Newspaper editors can all stop worrying what
to call the performing arts center since the Gerry Foundation announced Monday
that the 1969 site will be known as the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.
The name and a new logo will be displayed on a new sign at
the corner of Hurd Road and State Route 17B.
The name and logo were developed by Bear Brook Design of Washingtonville,
NY. The new name was said to have been carefully selected from hundreds of
possibilities that were researched. The logo depicts a flute-playing figure.
In 1996, the Gerry Foundation purchased the 37.4-acre location
of the original 1969 Woodstock Festival. Funding for the $46 million project
includes $15 million in New York State support from Governor George Pataki,
State Senator John J. Bonacic and Assemblyman Jacob E. Gunther III.
The Gerry Foundation will host several activities at Bethel
Woods this year:
• Bethel Summer Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, from
July 5 to August 16.
• Ben & Jerry’s “One World One Heart” Music Festival on
August 23 and 24.
• Fall Harvest Festivals on seven Sundays from Labor Day Weekend
to Columbus Day Weekend.
