New SR2001 segment
By TOM KANE
MILFORD, PA — The second portion of the State Route 2001 improvement
project is now complete in Pike County. The improved SR2001 is expected to
relieve some of the increasing traffic load on U.S. Route 209, which it parallels.
PennDOT highlighted the occasion with a ribbon cutting on
June 19.
The event marked the completion of the $4.5 million project
that involved improvements on State Road 2001 (Milford Road) between Log
Tavern Road (State Route 2006) and PA Route 739 in Delaware and Dingman Townships.
Improvements to the 3.7-mile section of SR 2001, included
widening of shoulders and roadway, curve realignment, new pavement, driveway
adjustments, guide-rail, signing, drainage and pavement markings.
Construction of this second portion had begun in the summer
of 2001.
In all, about 22 miles of State Route 2001 from Milford to
Bushkill is being reconstructed. Proposed improvements on the final two sections
of Route 2001 include more than 15 miles between PA Route 739 and U.S. Route
209 near Bushkill. Half of the mileage is in Lehman Township and half is
in Delaware Township.
Construction on the first of the final two sections, from
U.S. Route 209 to just north of Briscoe Mountain Road, is expected to run
between 2004 and 2005. The last section between Briscoe Mountain Road and
PA 739 should be completed by fall of 2007.
