Community leaders graduate

CALLICOON, NY — The fifth class of Leadership Sullivan students graduated at a ceremony at the Club at Villa Roma on Wednesday, June 11. Beginning in August of 2002, the students participated in weekly seminars on pertinent subjects regarding leadership of Sullivan County’s business community.

The course aims to identify, motivate and develop community leaders and expand the leadership potential of participants through educational programs designed to broaden knowledge of Sullivan County and the issues affecting its citizens.

Leadership Sullivan seeks 25 individuals for its 2003-2004 program. For more information call the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce at 845/292-8500.






Conservancy supports local graduates

MILANVILLE, PA — The Delaware Highlands Conservancy recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to Sarah Wicksnes of Rowland, PA and Rebecca Steele of Roscoe, NY, two high school seniors who will pursue college programs in the natural sciences.

Sarah Wicksnes, a senior at Wallenpaupack, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wicksnes. She plans to study environmental science at Juniata College. Rebecca Steele, a senior at Sullivan West High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steele. She plans to study environmental chemistry/science at SUNY Oneonta.

The Conservancy is pleased to honor Barbara Yeaman by granting these educational awards in her name. Yeaman is a founding member of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy and has worked to protect and preserve our natural resources.

It is hoped that these scholarships will stimulate interest in careers related to land stewardship and environmental sciences applicable to the needs of the Upper Delaware River Valley.

Meditation discussion

LIBERTY, NY— Looking for a way to ease stress and relax? Come to the Liberty Public Library on Thursday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. for a free talk on the basic elements of meditation. English Buddhist Gen Kelsang Sangkyong, resident teacher at the Kadampa Meditation Center, will present a ten-minute guided meditation and a discussion of the book The New Meditation Handbook written by world-renowned Buddhist Master and author, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
