Tractor parade attracts spectators
By TOM KANE
CALLICOON, NY — Since it didn’t rain over 260 tractors participated
in the Seventh Annual Callicoon Tractor Parade on June 8.
Tractors came from as far away as Delhi and Walton.
Despite the threat of rain, people formed double lines along
Lower Main Street to watch the spectacle.
“It’s wonderful how this parade is drawing more and more tractors
and spectators every year,” said Kathy Langley, one of the volunteers who
organized the parade.
Some of the tractors appeared well preserved despite their
age, like the 1934 Farmall that Charles Deckelman of Fremont drove.
“Most of the tractors were from around here, so you can see
that there are still a lot of people doing farming,” Langley said.
Afterwards, the crowd converged on the Delaware Youth Center
for a chicken barbecue.
“The money raised at the event will be donated to the Youth
Center,” Langley said.
The tractor parade was sponsored by the volunteers, the Youth
Center and the Callicoon Business Association.
