Waiting on the vote
By CHRIS CONROY
SMALLWOOD, NY — More than twenty people, pictured above, gathered
on June 8 to show their support for the veterans’ park expansion proposal
that was to be discussed again at the June 10 meeting of the Town of Bethel
Planning Board.
The park expansion, proposed by 17B Quickstop owner Paul Zaccari,
was first discussed at a May 27 public hearing but no vote was taken. Voting
on the proposal was tabled pending further exploration of aesthetic issues
raised by the Bethel First beautification group, including signage and vehicle
storage at the Quickstop.
Zaccari, and those who came to show their support, said that
aesthetic concerns are being given too much credence at planning board meetings.
Flyers handed out to passing motorists during the June 8 rally posed the
question, “Are they [the planning board and Bethel First] overstepping their
bounds?”
At press time, the outcome of the planning board meeting was
not available.
