Lady Bulldogs win opener
By RICHARD
A. ROSS
JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The good news is that the Bulldogs persevered
through several defensive miscues and held on to win their season opener
against James I. O’Neill. The bad news is that they may have lost starter
Mary Kuen for an unspecified period after she injured her ankle on a late
slide into home plate. Kuen was taken to Catskill Regional Medical Center
in Callicoon for X-rays.
Starting pitcher Erin Rosenberger pitched a complete game.
Leslie Bright who went three for four with three RBI sparked the Bulldogs’
offense. Each time O’Neill rallied, the Bulldogs answered. Tiffany Hauser
drove in four runs and Kim Jay drove in three more. Heather Nober contributed
two hits and two RBI as the Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 OCIAA) prevailed.
“We hit well. It was a good game, although I thought we’d
be better defensively,” said Coach John Meyer. The coaches and team were
hopeful that Kuen’s injury wouldn’t be that serious. The inclement early
spring weather prevented the team from getting much practice outside. Clearly,
sliding is not something you get to practice in the gym.

Saul fires strong outing in Bulldogs’ first win
By RICHARD

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — It’s all about pitching. Any fan of the
game can attest to the fact that good pitching overwhelms good hitting. Everett
Saul had it going on April 14 as he hurled a three-hitter against James I.
O’Neill. Saul pitched his way out of a fourth inning jam by inducing a double
play grounder and a line drive to third baseman Ryan Taylor after the Raiders
got a lead off single and a walk. Saul struggled with his command at times
and walked six. He struck out two.
J.C. Henry continued his hot hitting going 3 for 4, driving
in two runs and scoring twice. In the season-opening 6-5 loss to Goshen on
April 10, he hit a two-run homer and scored three times. Sean Kelly had two
hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs in the win over O’Neill.
