Shohola okays new parish hall
By TOM KANE
SHOHOLA, PA — The Shohola Township supervisors have granted
preliminary approval to St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in the hamlet of
Shohola for construction of a 5,000 square foot parish hall. The April 10
approval was recommended by the township’s planning board.
The hall will contain 10 classrooms for religious instruction,
according to Father David Cramer, a priest of the Scranton Diocese. The classroom
walls will be folded back to allow for a larger room to hold events.
There are about 240 children in the instruction program, he
said and over 600 families are in the parish. Instructions are held on Sunday
mornings and evenings.
“This approval is very preliminary,” Cramer said. “We’ll
need to fulfill a number of conditions before we start building.”
Cramer hopes to start the project during this summer.
“We hope to open the new hall by this time next year,” he
said.
In other township business last week, residents complained
about the condition of Little Walker and Lee Roads.
“It’s spring and time for us to work on all the roads,” said
supervisors chair, George J. Fluhr. “We’ll be looking at those two roads
right away, and then to all the roads.”
