Sullivan Partnership wins environmental grants
MONTICELLO, NY — The Sullivan County Partnership for Economic
Development was recognized for its environmental efforts on March 4 as Governor
George E. Pataki announced $4 million in Environmental Investment Program
(EIP) awards.
The awards will help 22 New York companies protect the state’s
environment, while also saving them $24 million annually through improved
efficiencies and increased sales, the Governor said.
The partnership was recognized for two related efforts and
awarded $127,000.
They received $59,634 toward a $106,725 project to assist
Brey’s Egg Farm of Jeffersonville in purchasing equipment to expand their
composting operation. Success of the project will result in 10,000 tons per
year of manure composted and diverted from land-spreading, earn $149,000
per year in new revenue, and save $68,000 per year on avoided hauling fees.
The second award of $67,081 was toward a $135,881 project
to assist Hudson Valley Foie Gras of Ferndale to purchase equipment needed
to start a poultry waste composting operation. The project would result in
the composting of 4,950 tons of poultry manure and bedding material, and
produce 3,300 tons per year of finished product worth at least $100,000.
