Bagel Gourmet to become Trish’s Bagels

HAWLEY, PA — Under new ownership, the Bagel Gourmet on Main Street will be renovated and significantly expanded into the back parking lot.

“We are going to bring in new baking equipment, as well as tables and chairs to provide seating by the windows,” said Jim Downey, new co-owner with his wife, Trish. Jim will be responsible for making fresh bagels everyday.

“We make the best bagels in the area and we intend to attract more customers with an expanded menu and a pleasant seating area,” he said.

Formerly from Queens, the couple moved to the area three years ago with their six children, ranging in age from eight to 24.

“We came here for the schools and the peaceful country life,” said Trish, who will handle customer relations and management issues.

“The shop is open seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the same employees as before. Come by and say hello.”

The business is scheduled to remain opened during the renovations, which are expected to last three to four months. The name of the shop will be changed to Trish’s Bagels.

A grand opening is scheduled for the spring.
