Olympics in Shohola

SHOHOLA, PA — Fog and a driving rain didn’t stop a crowd estimated
at 250 from lining the side streets surrounding Rohman’s Inn on Saturday
for what has become an annual community event.
They continued to arrive throughout the day to take part in
Rohman’s 17th annual Winter Olympics. The tavern’s takeoff on the international
sporting event has become a welcome relief to winter doldrums.
Master of Ceremonies Gerard Byrne said the day had something
for everyone.
“We’ll have fine food, cooking contests, horseshoes, a keg
toss, turkey shoot and, of course, our triathlon.”
The triathlon event included shooting a bee-bee gun, bow and
arrow, then drinking 40 ounces of beer.
“If you throw up, you’re disqualified,” he said.
Rohman’s owner Sheila Farrell was busy in the kitchen.
“This is the first year we had bad weather but they’re still
here.”
She, the staff, and volunteers captured the light of the day
with sunny smiles.
