The ice shelf at the Narrowsburg Eddy was home to several dozen fishermen during the weekend of February 1-2. Highlighted against the ice are men who traveled from as far afield as Wilkes Barre and the Hudson Valley. (Click for larger image)

Good fishing on the Big Eddy

NARROWSBURG, NY — Cold weather is rarely a real deterrent to those who enjoy ice fishing.

On Groundhog Day, the Big Eddy in Narrowsburg testified to this fact as people in heavy coats cut their holes in the ice. Like the groundhog, a number of fish saw their shadows as they were hoisted from the ice, including an outstanding 21-inch walleye caught by Ralph Delamater, Jr. of Carbondale.

Temperatures in Narrowsburg varied from a low of 31°F to a high of 37°F on Sunday.
