Carl Kelly appointed VP of Nursing Home Operations for Elant
GOSHEN, NY — Narrowsburg native Carl J. Kelly has won a new
promotion, but he’s still not leaving home.
Donna G. Case, President & CEO, has named Kelly as Vice
President, Nursing Home Operations for Elant, Inc. health and housing system.
Despite the positions he’s held outside Sullivan County, Carl
and his spouse, the former Christine Wyss, still make their home in Highland
Lake.
Both are aware that the norm would have been to move away.
“Traditionally people become carpenters and masons…When you
graduate, you want more,” he said.
He admits it was a bit easier for him, growing up in the family’s
nursing home business. Still, “We wanted the kids to have the same things
we had, and better,” he said.
“We were born here. We’re used to the driving,” Chris added.
Both Kellys are NCS graduates. She is employed at Catskill
Regional Medical Center.
But Kelly believes the lack of opportunities that often drove
younger people away is changing. “Absolutely, the situation is getting better,”
but he said that the towns need to actively recruit the businesses that can
provide better paying technical jobs.
For Kelly the choice has always been clear.
“Orange County is a nice place to work, but I wouldn’t want
to live there.”
Kelly has most recently filled the position of commissioner
of the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility, under an administrative
services agreement for the last four years.
He has held the position of Administrator for Wingate at Dutchess,
the former Mercy Manor of Mercy Community Hospital, and the Sullivan County
Adult Care Center. Kelly has also been a consultant administrator for Roscoe
Community Nursing Home.
He received a Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree in health
services management from SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome and
an Associate in Applied Science Degree in business administration from SUNY
Cobleskill College. He is presently enrolled at Long Island University, pursuing
a Masters Degree in public administration/health care administration.
He is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in New York.
Kelly completed his Administrator-in-Training internship at
Arden Hill Life Care Center, now called Elant at Goshen.
Kelly is active in a variety of New York State organizations
serving the elderly at both the county and state level. He has served as
state membership chairman for three years in the New York State American
College of Health Care Administrators. He is a board member of the County
Nursing Facilities of New York since 1999.
Elant, Inc., a community-based, not-for-profit organization
is the leading regional provider of services for older adults and chronically
ill people of all ages. The organization began as a 120-bed nursing home,
established in 1985, and has grown to a comprehensive system of seven corporations
that provide a full range of health and housing services to the mid-Hudson
Valley and beyond. On any given day, Elant serves more than 2,200 people
through its varied network of facilities, home care agencies and community
services.
