Annual countdown quiz show competition

By RICHARD A. ROSS

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — BOCES will sponsor the annual Quiz Show Countdown Competition featuring nearly 100 contestants from all the local schools. The event will be held at SCCC in the media center. Week one of the competition, which runs from February 3 to 6, is for high school juniors. The championship round will be held on February 6.

The second week of competition for high school seniors runs from February 10 to 13.

The championship round will be held on February 13. The times for the competitions will be 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Each time slot will feature a competition between a pair of contending schools.

Throughout the year, schools submit various general questions for the competition. The topics are very broad and cover a host of topics. Each school is able to submit up to 200 questions per year. BOCES also compiles a list of questions for the quiz show.

Each of the groups (juniors and seniors) will be competing for a trophy that will be awarded to the winning team at the end of the championship round. Each participant will receive a t-shirt designed by the previous year’s winners. This year’s t-shirt was designed by Tri-Valley.

The people hosting the event are Dr. Martin Handler, Daryl Magill, and Bryan Lane. The college will be taping the event and it will be aired in April on Cable 6.
