This snow-sculpted blue dragon guarded the entrance to the Rotary ice rink at the 44th Annual Livingston Manor Rotary Ice Carnival.
One of two dragons making appearances at the Rotary ice carnival was this first-place winning snow sculpture by the Livingston Manor High School class of 2004. The theme of this year’s sculpture contest was “Mardi Gras” and this entry was called “Parade Dragon.”
The 2003 Ice Carnival royalty, accompanied by other skaters, made their way around the rink twice to start off the festivities. Josh Evans and Alisha Davis are the 2003 king and queen with Daniel Gorr, Rebecca Rakin, Daniel Walker, Abbey Stewart and Elizabeth Walker rounding out the court.

Locals and Olympians take to the ice

By CHRIS CONROY

LIVINGSTON MANOR — Despite frigid weather, the 44th Annual Livingston Manor Rotary Ice Carnival was unquestionably a success.

“It was really great,” said Rotary member and event chair Gary Siegel. “I’ll never complain that it’s too cold for an ice carnival.”

While the weather was considerably colder than last year’s just barely 32-degree day, the stands around the ice rink at Rotary Park were full of spectators. Those spectators had a chance to see first hand the skill of U.S. Olympic ice dancers Charles and Beata Sinek, and a plethora of potential Olympians. In all, there were eighteen ice-dancing performances before the races began.

Rounding out the day was the ongoing display of the snow sculptures created by classes from the Livingston Manor Central School and sled dog demonstrations by Fantasy Forest Kennels of Taylor Valley.

Danielle Stewart, one of the young skaters featured during the exhibition section of the Ice Carnival, strikes a pose during her routine.
Taking to the ice in a sleeveless and backless outfit, skater Jordan Hartey displayed both technical skill and physical endurance as the temperature dipped lower.
Kaitlyn Burns, dressed in the day’s most elaborate performance costume, ice-danced to the tune of “Rockin’ Robin” and ended the number by diving into her nest.
