Mazur
leaving ECS
By DAVID HULSE
ELDRED, NY — District Superintendent Candace Mazur on
January 8 submitted her September 2003 resignation from Eldred Central School.
Mazur,
who has been at ECS since 1998, said she was leaving to spend more time with
her husband.
Admitting mixed emotions, she said, “Sometimes you have to
draw back a bit. You don’t know how much time you’re going to have. My family
has taken a back seat and allowed me to do what I wanted and now it’s time
for them.”
Board of Education President Bob Burrow accepted the resignation
with regret and added that Mazur’s efforts to provide the best education
for all the students was the best he has seen in his 35 years association
with the district.
Secondary School Principal Ivan Katz said how important Mazur
had been in his career and noted that she always put the well-being of the
children and staff first. He led a standing ovation for her.
Student publishes 9/11 memorial
ECS Junior classman, James Romaglio is pictured with a copy
of the memorial book he created and presented to the board of education on
January 8. It incorporates student contributions that commemorate the September
11 tragedy in New York City, initially created for a memorial wall project.
Romaglio decided to collect the poems, ideas and designs for a book to be
kept in the school library. Teacher Regina Campbell said the scanning and
design work took more than three months to complete.
