GRACE A. ADAMS
CALLICOON CENTER, NY — Grace A. Adams, a homemaker and a 19-year
resident of Callicoon Center, died Friday December 20, 2002 at the Westchester
Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 81.
She was born July 15, 1921, in Brooklyn, to the late Lenard
and Angeline Cancemi Saladino.
Survivors include her husband, Augustus Adams; two sons, James
Adams of Calliccoon Center and August Adams of Wappingers Falls; two grandchildren;
and one sister, Rose Quarataro of Selden.
Services were held on Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at St. George’s
Church in Jeffersonville. Father Paul Osbourne, O.F.M., officiated. Cremation
was at the Twin Tiers Crematory, Endicott.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s
choice.
Arrangements were made by Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon.
LEWIS E. BLACKMER, JR.
LAKE ARIEL, PA — Lewis E. Blackmer, Jr., a retired self-employed
refuse disposal service worker, died December 26, 2002, at the Julia Ribaudo
Senior Care Center in Lake Ariel, PA, following an illness. He was 80.
He was born in Lords Valley, PA to the late Lewis E. Blackmer,
Sr. and Catherine Pogaski. He was predecesed in death by his wife of 40 years,
Ethel M. (Craven) Blackmer in 1997; a sister, Helen Dean; and a brother,
Thomas Blackmer.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Henrietta Mittan of Melbourne,
FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Prayer services and visitation were on Saturday, December 28,
2002. The Rev. William B. Healey officiated. Interment will be at Queen of
Peace Cemetery in Hawley, PA.

MARK ANDREW THOMAS BOYD
SHOHOLA, PA — Mark Andrew Thomas Boyd, infant son of Charline
Boyd, died shortly after birth on Monday, December 23, 2002, at Bon Secours
Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY.
Survivors include mother, Charline Boyd of Shohola, PA; step-brother,
Ian James Wildrick of Port Jervis; grandfather, George E. Boyd of Port Jervis;
grandmother, Pamela Boyd of Shohola, PA; three uncles, two aunts; and several
cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 30, 2002, at Gray-Parker
Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis. The Rev. Rodney Ryle officiated.
Arrangements were made by Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis.
VIOLA ENGVALDSEN CONNER
LAKE TEEDYUSKUNG, PA — Viola (Wassmer) Engvaldsen Conner, a
bookkeeper for Chemical Bank, NY and a 30-year resident died Friday, December
27, 2002, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. She was
84.
Viola was born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Rudolph Wassner
and Viola Neill Wassmer. She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent Engvaldsen.
She was involved in the Central Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary
and Sons of Norway.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Engvaldsen, Thomas E.
Engvaldsen and Alan R. Engvaldsen, all of Hawley, PA; two daughters, Gladys
Rabey of Mays Landing, NJ, and Evelyn Strasser of Hawley, PA; two brothers,
Rudolph Wassmer of Hawley, PA, and Lester Wassmer of Binghamton; 14 grandchildren,
13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at
Teeter’s East Chapel. The Rev. Elwood E. Mather officiated. Interment will
be at Rowland Cemetery, Rowland, PA.

ROSE M. GALLO
LIBERTY, NY — Rose M. Gallo, a homemaker and 8-year resident,
died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center
in Liberty. She was 94.
Rose was born to the late Guissepe and Carmela Pinto Gallo
in Harlem. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Brooklyn.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Gallo of Smallwood and Rev.
Vincent Gallo of Queens; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Thursday, December 26, 2002, at
Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay’s Funeral Home
in Kauneonga Lake, NY.
C. WILLIAM PERKIN
BEACH LAKE, PA — C. William “Bill” Perkin, a life-long resident,
died at his home on Saturday, December 21, 2002 after a lengthy illness.
He was 79.
Bill was born in Beach Lake to the late William J. and Lucy
Kappelmann Perkin in Beach Lake, PA. He was self-employed in the trucking
business until his retirement. He was a member of the Beach Lake United Methodist
Church and owner of Perkin’s Pond Rod and Gun Club although he didn’t hunt
or fish.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Larsen Perkin;
two sons, Roy F. of Beach Lake, PA, and Robert W. of Ledgedale; a daughter,
Jan Daniels of Beach Lake, PA; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his daughter, Penny Dirlam.
Private funeral services were held. Interment will be at the
Beach Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice St.
John’s, 1007 Oak Street, Pittston, PA 18640.

Home in Honesdale, PA.
ROBERT L. SIMES
SMALLWOOD, NY — Robert L. Simes, a retired teacher for the
Levittown School District in Levittown, LI, and 10-year area resident, died
Thursday, December 19, 2002, at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in
Liberty. He was 80.
The son of the late James and Mary O’Brien Simes, he was born
in Rhode Island.
A World War II veteran of the Army attaining rank of sergeant,
he served from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Simes was a member of St. Joseph’s Church
in Mongaup Valley.
He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Lorino of Smallwood, a
brother, Ralph B. Simes of Honesdale, PA; a sister, Vivian Schomer of Connecticut;
three nieces; one nephew; and two grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was held at the St. Joseph’s Church in Mongaup
Valley on Friday, December 20, 2002. Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill
Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay’s Funeral Home
of Kauneonga Lake, NY.
