Four Pocono Mountains lodging facilities certified as ‘green’

POCONO MOUNTAINS, PA — Four Pocono Mountains lodging facilities are among the first in Pennsylvania to be certified as “green” by Green Seal, and independent nonprofit environmental standard-setting and certification organization. They are Brookview Manor Inn, Mountaintop Lodge, Pocmont Resort and Conference Center and The Settler’s Inn at Bingham Park.

The environmental standard for lodging properties contains 36 criteria in six major facility categories, including waste minimization, reuse and recycling, energy efficiency, conservation and management, management of fresh water resources, wastewater management, hazardous substances, and environmentally and socially sensitive purchasing policies.

A total of 22 lodging facilities across Pennsylvania have been certified as a result of a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). To further the Governor’s initiative to “green” Commonwealth government, state employees are encouraged to stay and hold meetings at certified properties whenever possible.
