ELDRED, NY — After two early
setbacks at the Tri-Valley tournament last week, the
Lady Yellowjackets of Eldred opened their own tournament
with a win on Monday, December 2. After losing games
in the Tri-Valley tournament to Liberty and Tri-Valley,
Eldred played a strong game to defeat Chapel Field
42-33. Trailing early, the young team, which features
mostly sophomores and juniors, battled back to get
the lead. Paced by Jessica Cherry who scored 10, Eldred
(1-2) held off Chapel Field (0-1) despite a 17-point
game from Stacey Kuperus. Eldred will play Livingston
Manor for the tournament title next Monday. Manor
defeated The Family School (0-1) in the first game
by a score of 47-24. Jennifer Taggart led the Wildcats

Boy’s Basketball Results
Fallsburg and Sullivan West
advance in Billy Moran Tip Off Tournament
JEFFERSONVILE, NY — The boys’
basketball season opened with a memorable match-up
between the Fallsburg Comets and the Tri-Valley Bears.
The packed gym roared with enthusiasm as the game
seesawed back and forth. It was a game that featured
great scoring including the 36-point effort by Fallsburg’s
Jon Hinton. Hinton’s three-point shooting in
overtime made the difference in the 86-80 win by the
Comets (1-0). Hinton dropped in a trio of shots from
beyond the arc during the overtime. Kyle Humphrey
led Tri-Valley’s scoring with a great night
of shooting. Humphrey had 30 points for the Bears
(0-1).
The tournament was created in the memory
of Billy Moran a former Delaware Valley student who
died in April 1981 during spring training for Union
College. Billy was a fine athlete and great student.
In the second game, the Sullivan West
Bulldogs defeated the Liberty Indians by a score of
57-44. Senior forward Brent Rose led all scorers with
23 points. His fine inside play and penetration to
the basket was noteworthy. Joe Meyer had 11 points
for the Bulldogs. Jeremy Liu had 11 points for Liberty.
Sullivan West will face the Comets
for the tournament title while Liberty will face Tri-Valley
in the consolation game. Those games were scheduled
for Tuesday, December 3, after this paper went to
press.
