Healing from down under
By KAREN MACBRIDE
Gazing up at the underbelly of the
seven foot 1907 Steinway piano was an unusual experience.
Never before had I even thought to lie beneath such
an instrument. After settling myself comfortably on
the mat, a soft blanket over my legs—the music
began.
Liz Gorrill, a long time resident of
Callicoon, NY has developed a unique form of therapy
that combines creativity and intuitive healing. After
an initial consultation and intuitive reading, she
uses music and the visual arts to help release creative
energy that may be blocked and preventing an individual
from discovering their creative potential. This energy
allows access to a deeper level of creativity and
self-knowledge.
Having gone through her own tumultuous
journey with depression and illness, Gorrill’s
work comes from years of deep inner work and an extraordinary
connection with nature, which became her “primary
physician.” She studied Intuitive Counseling
with Meredith Young-Sowers in 1997 and is a certified
graduate of the Stillpoint School for Advanced Energy
Healing. For several years Gorrill worked with Ronger
Shen and Yi Wu and taught Soaring Crane QiGong.
Music has been a constant throughout
Gorrill’s life and as an improvisational pianist
and singer she is masterful. “I create works
of music and art that read, reflect and release inner
energy… images and information come to me as
I create, offering intuitive insight into the physical,
emotional and spiritual challenges of each person
that I work with.”
Under that tiger mahogany piano, I
was experiencing what Gorrill calls a “tonal
treatment.” I would call it a “tonal transformation,”
at times profound and penetrating to a cellular level,
then shifting and lightly touching other areas with
an intuitive sense as to what was needed—a creative
intelligence was at work. “I see it symbolically;
being under the piano is like going back to the womb,”
Gorrill said. “Instead of creating a body, we
are creating a life. It is all there, the connection
between creation and creativity.”
