Liberty Theatre and Cafe come alive

LIBERTY, NY — The historic Liberty Theatre, and the new Theatre Cafe, next door, will celebrate its opening at an official ribbon cutting on Saturday, November 2, at 12:30 p.m.

Now under the ownership and management of The Main Street Project, the refurbished theatre, which opened on July 3, has already brought new life to Liberty's Main Street. The cheery Theatre Cafe was opened on October 4 by the same owners and managers. Both the theatre and cafe will stay open year-round.

The Theatre Cafe will welcome the public to the ribbon cutting by serving free coffee and tea.

"The Greater Liberty Chamber of Commerce is delighted to recognize the wonderful energy that the revamped theatre and the new cafe are bringing to Main Street," said Dianne Brady, who is arranging the festivities.

"We're deeply moved by all the local support for the Liberty Theatre and Cafe," said Liberty resident Allan Berube, Program Director for both enterprises.

In addition to regular screenings, Berube said, the theatre will hold benefits for local groups, using the cafe as a reception area. A one-time screening of the classic comedy "Born Yesterday," starring Judy Holliday in her Academy Award-winning role, will benefit the Catskill Regional Medical Center Auxiliary on Saturday, November 9, followed by a reception in the cafe. For more information about benefit screenings call 845 295-9240.

For information about Liberty Theatre film times call 845/292-3000. The Theatre Cafe is open on Fridays, 6:00 to 11:00 p.m., Saturdays 6:00 p.m. to midnight, and Sundays 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The Main Street Project, owner of the theatre and cafe, was founded by David Gibson and Linda Eklund to work with local residents in the development of properties in Liberty and Sullivan County, with special attention to visual, historic, and community concerns.
