ROBERT A. BANUAT

OBERNBURG — Robert A. Banuat of Obernburg, owner of Robert Banuat Sawmill in Obernburg and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Callicoon. He was 67.

Son of the late Anthony and Margaret Cross Banuat, he was born January 27, 1935 in Obernburg.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Obernburg; the Emmett Turner American Legion Post No 276 in Jeffersonville, and the North Branch Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Lester Banuat, at home; two daughters, Linda and Joan Banuat, both at home; three sisters, Jane Keesler of Callicoon Center, Ellen Hunt of Hawley, PA and Mary Nosek of Youngsville; four nieces, two nephews; four great-nieces and three great-nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Edward.

Services were held at St. Mary’s Church in Obernburg. Rev. Gus Richardson, OFM officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

WILLIAM H. DIRIE

ROSCOE — William H. “Bill” Dirie, owner of Dirie Supply and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, August 18, 2002 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 73.

Son of Alma Ida Werlau Dirie and the late William John Dirie, he was born April 13, 1929 in Liberty.

He was past chief and life member of the Hortonville Volunteer Fire Department; a former New York State Fire Instructor; former Town of Delaware Highway Department employee; a member of the Sullivan, Orange, Ulster and Delaware Highway Superintendents Association.

Survivors include his mother of Liberty; his companion, Joyce Bury of Roscoe; two daughters, Wendy Adams and husband Jim of Callicoon Center and Wanda Weigelt of Smallwood; three sons, Arthur and wife Jeannine of Saugerties, Jay of Hortonville and Michael and wife Tonya of Hortonville; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.

Cremation took place at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

ARTHUR P. MCDERMOTT

HAWLEY — Arthur P. McDermott of Hawley, an annealer for US Steel Fairless Hills Works, died Friday, August 23, 2002 at home. He was 60.

Son of the late Arthur P. and Catherine Davidson McDermott, he was born in Wilkes-Barre.

He attended Penn State University. He was a member of Cole Memorial Baptist Church in Hawley; the Steel Workers Union 4889 in Fairless Hills. He was active in the children’s Evangelical Fellowship at Cole Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, JoAnn Gardner McDermott; two daughters, Gina Burd and Susan Ashley, both of Loveland, CO; four sons, Arthur III of Levittown; Russell of Denver, CO, Dennis Becker of Sellersville and Jerry Becker of Levittown; a sister, Janice McDermott of Sarasota, FL; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.Services were held in Cole Memorial Baptist Church in Hawley. Robert I. Jones, pastor, officiated. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

REXFORD G. PINTLER

HONESDALE — Rexford G. Pintler of Honesdale, formerly of Milanville, a handyman on several farms in the Milanville area, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002 in the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale. He was 80.

Son of the late Evert and Margaret Wahl Pintler, he was born in Carley Brook.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Edwin G. of Honesdale and a sister, Ruth Blum of Honesdale.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth.

Graveside services were held in the Glen Dyberry Cemetery in Honesdale. Rev. Bonnie Sheard, associate pastor of Acts 1-8 Church in Cochecton, officiated.
