ELVIRA ANDRIGHETTI

BROOKLYN — Elvira Andrighetti of Brooklyn, a longtime summer resident of Lake Huntington, a retired seamstress/sample maker and former entrepreneur of Andre Sportswear, died Sunday, June 20, 2002 in Brooklyn. She was 89.

Survivors include two daughters, Irene Dietz and husband Joseph, and Gloria McIlwain and husband Jimmie; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Requiem Mass was offered at Regina Pacis Votive Shrine Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery in Maspeth.

WAYNE E. BABCOCK

WALLKILL — Wayne E. Babcock of Wallkill, a carpenter for United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 0019 and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the Manhattan VA Hospital in New York City. He was 51.

Son of Theodore and Joyce Walker Babcock, he was born May 6, 1951 in Margaretville.

He was an Air Force veteran serving from 1970 to 1972.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Scott Babcock of New Windsor; his mother of Gardiner; his father of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Michael of New Windsor, Randy of Jeffersonville and Barton of Gardiner; a sister, Connie Kenworthy of Wallkill; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Millspaugh Funeral Home in Walden. The Rev. Kent Jackson officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

ELIZABETH ANN BROWN

WHITE MILLS — Elizabeth Ann Brown, an one-and-a-half-year year resident of White Mills, formerly of Hawley, a retired cook at Steve's Town House Diner in Honesdale, died July 20, 2002 at home. She was 72.

Daughter of the late Edmond T. Powell and the late Alice Mullen Powell, she was born in Carbondale. She was the widow of the late Joseph F. Brown who died in 1975.

She graduated from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City, NJ and worked at American Telephone and Telegraph Company. After returning to the Hawley-Honesdale area, she also worked at Kurle's Diner and Meszler's Diner. She was a member of Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley and a member of St. John Evangelist Church in Honesdale. She was a member of the FVW Auxiliary in Honesdale and St. Theresa Little Flower for the Mentally Challenged.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcy De Groat Miller of Hawley and Mary Alice Ehrenzweig of Islip, NY; a sister, Marsha Shiel of Kinnelon, NJ; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and her best friend, Ida Robinson.

She was predeceased by a sister, Cecilia Powell.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, pastor, officiated. Private cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudburg.

RUSSELL E. BLACKMAN

FEDERAL HEIGHTS, CO — Russell E. Blackman of Federal Heights, CO, a longtime resident of Matamoras, retired from the Skydine Inc. in Port Jervis, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 after a heart attack at Alpine Living Center in Thornton, CO. He was 90.

Son of George C. Blackman and Florence Clark Blackman, he was born in Mill Rift on March 12, 1912.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Rosencranse Blackman at Alpine Living Center; a daughter, Barbara Blackman Lovelace Taylor and husband Donald of Surprise, AZ; a sister, Mildred Blackman Drake Moreaux of Milford; and four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, George C. Jr. and Emerson.

A family memorial service was held at the Cremation Garden Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, CO.

WILLIAM DANZER, JR.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — William Danzer, Jr., owner of Danzer's Garage in Youngsville, NY, died Sunday, July 21, 2002 in West Palm Beach Veteran's Care Center. He was 84.

Son of William Danzer, Sr. and Addie Vielie Danzer, he was born July 21, 1918 in Yonkers, NY.

He was a 62-year member of the Youngsville Fire Department, The Happy Footers Square Dance Club and the Community Reformed Church in Youngsville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He lived in Nettles Island, Jensen Beach full time for five years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hazel Bryan Danzer at home; a daughter, Diann Jamieson of Youngsville; two sons, Bryan and wife Frances of Warner Robens, GA and Craig and wife Cherie of Oswego, NY; six grandchildren; five nephews; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert and wife Evelyn of Lewisburg, NC.

Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, NY. Burial was in the Youngsville Presbyterian Cemetery in Youngsville, NY.

JOHN FISCHER

COCHECTON — John Fischer of Cochecton, a self-employed mason and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 86.

Son of Casper and Emma Stewart Fischer, he was born October 9, 1915 in Bethel. He was the widower of Inez Calkin Fischer.

He was a member of the Fosterdale United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Barnes of Binghamton, NY and Joan Gabriel of Cochecton; a sister, Mary Green of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Joseph and a daughter, Janice Fallar.

Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville. Cremation took place at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

MARGARET GARRETT

MILFORD — Margaret Garrett of Milford died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at home. She was 86.

Daughter of the late Edward Nolan and Mary Clancy Nolan, she was born June 26, 1916 in New York City. She was the widow of Edward J. Garrett.

Survivors include a son, Dennis of Buchanan, NY; a daughter, Judy McAliney and husband Jim of Milford; a sister, Lillian Kowalski of Long Island, NY; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Heid.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church in Milford. The Rev. Gerald Mullally officiated. Burial was in St. Denis Cemetery in Hopewell Junction, NY. Msgr. Joseph Meehan officiated.

MICHAEL V. HARDEN

NORTH BRANCH — Michael V. Harden of North Branch, a former New Hyde Park resident, died Sunday, July 21, 2002.

He was the widower of Josephine Harden.

Survivors include three children, Henry, Teresa and Kamila; 12 grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Macieik.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church in Floral Park. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in Obernburg.

MICHAEL BERNARD HENKE

CALLICOON — Michael Bernard Henke of Callicoon, a dairy farmer and lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at home. He was 52.

Son of Francis R. and Joan Hebert Henke, he was born January 7, 1952 in Callicoon.

He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Callicoon; a member and past chief of Callicoon Fire Dept., former Councilman for the town of Delaware, board of directors of Sullivan County Agway and member and  past director of Sullivan County Cooperative Extension.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Kinch Henke at home; his parents, Francis R. and Joan Hebert Henke of Callicoon; two daughters, Kristin Porter and husband of Callicoon and Katrina Johnston and husband Daniel of Roscoe; a son Michael M. of Callicoon; two sisters, Kathryn Coleman and husband Gary of Port Jervis and Diane Drenkard and husband Hans of Stratford, CT; four brothers, David and wife Christina of Dryden, Bernard and wife Donna of Pine Bush, Paul and wife Connie of Gardiner and Francis and wife Marlena of Horse Heads; a father-in-law, Dale Kinch of Allentown, PA; two uncles, Conrad and wife Helen of Charlotte, NC and James of Callicoon; an aunt, Marie Henke of Punta Gorda, FL; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon. Father Anthony Moore, O.F.M. officiated. Cremation took place at Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

ANNA M. MARTINKOVIC

LIBERTY — Anna M. Martinkovic of Liberty, a retired 30-year waitress for the Grossinger Resort in Liberty and a 70-year area resident, died Friday, July 26, 2001 at home. She was 90.

Daughter of the late Andrew and Caroline Kovalcik Malecky, she was born August 23, 1911 in Shoaf, PA.

She was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include a son, Richard A. and wife Janet of Liberty; a granddaughter, Jill M. of Kingston; a grandson, Michael R. of Liberty; two sisters, Helena Kuvucova and Mary Kish, both of Slovesko Ves, Slovakia.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Peter's Church. The Rev. Father William Reamer officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery in Liberty.

RICHARD ALLEN RYSDYKE, JR.

PORT JERVIS — Richard Allen Rysdyke, Jr. of Port Jervis, a tire technician at Schields Tire in Port Jervis, died Friday, July 26, 2002 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 31.

Son of Robert Rysdyke, Sr. and the late Olive Wallace, he was born November 25, 1970 in Middletown.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Smith Rysdyke at home; a son, Richard Allen Rysdyke, III at home; a daughter, Jennifer Rose Rysdyke at home; his father of Port Jervis; a brother, John of Port Jervis; a brother, David of Bloomingburg; a sister, Kathleen Seibel of Largo, FL; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis. Rev. Robert Cassidy of the Drew Methodist Church in Port Jervis officiated. Burial was in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Port Jervis.

JANET E. SELNECK

MATAMORAS — Janet E. Selneck of Matamoras, a lifelong area resident and a retired manager of Lloyds Gas Station in Port Jervis, died Monday, July 15, 2002 at home. She was 75.

Daughter of the late Frank and Marian Philpitt Purrey, she was born February 22, 1927 in Port Jervis. She was the widow of Adolph Selneck.

She was a member of the Co-operative Extension in Liberty.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Byrne and husband Joseph of Sundown; two sons, Bruce of Shohola and Craig and wife Deborah of Milford; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

FRIEDA T. SHREK

GREELEY — Frieda T. Shrek of Greeley, former owner and operator of Pine Tree Cottage of Greeley, died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at home. She was 96.

She was born in Germany on January 20, 1906. She was the widow of George Shrek.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara R. Correale of Lackawaxen; a son, George G. of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Stroyan Funeral Home in Milford. The Rev. David Repenning officiated. Burial took place at the convenience of the family.

TAMMY SUE SCHMIDT

HONESDALE — Tammy Sue Schmidt of Honesdale, a five-year area resident, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 in Scranton Community Medical Center of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 18.

Daughter of Dieter R.A. and Sharon L. Morse Schmidt of Honesdale, she was born in Ridgewood, NJ.

She grew up in Haledon, NJ and moved with her family to Honesdale in 1997. She graduated from Honesdale High School in 2002 and planned on pursuing a career in special education. She loved writing poetry, drawing, sculpture and pottery and especially enjoyed riding with the Blue Knights Police Motorcycle Club.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her fiancé, James Roemer of Damascus; paternal grandmother, Elisabeth M. Schmidt of Honesdale; two sisters, Susan A. Bologna and husband Patrick of Suffern, NY and Lorie L. Smith and husband Chad A. of North Haledon, NJ.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents George and Alice McNeil Morse and paternal grandfather Albert Schmidt.

A graveside funeral service was held in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's local Make-A-Wish Foundation.

MARGARET SUPPA

GLEN SPEY — Margaret Suppa of Glen Spey, a longtime area resident and a homemaker, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 66.

Daughter of Anthony Bernardo and Mary Savery Bernardo, she was born December 8, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pond Eddy, and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard Suppa at home; a son, Mark and wife Gina of Glen Spey; a daughter, Bernadine Dennis and husband Michael of Wilkes-Barre; two sisters, Dorothy Whitaker of Eldred and Anna May Pecora of Queens; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Sacred Heart Church in Pond Eddy, NY. The Rev. Anthony Moore officiated. Burial was at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Eldred.

DIANE ZAJAC

FARMINGTON — Diane Zajac, the Youth Director at the United Presbyterian-American Baptist Church in Canandaigua, died July 26, 2002, at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was 33.

The daughter of Philip and Mildred Ludwig Snedeker, she was born February 21, 1969 in Monticello. Friends will remember her as an avid bird watcher, who loved music, her church, traveling and cooking.

Survivors include her loving husband of nine years, Dale; her parents; her brothers, Glen, Alan, Bruce, and Roger Snedeker; one sister, Barbara Schultz; her aunts and uncles, Mildred and Albert Ludwig, Alfred and Helen Snedeker, and Marie and Jack Levine; her grandmother, Marie Snedeker; her mother and father-inlaw, John and Diane Zajac; a brother-in-law, Jack Zajac; and aunts and uncles-in-law, Ted and Donna Zajac, Larry and Jeannete Zajac, and Johanna and Robert McCarthy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fosterdale Methodist Church. The family will be receiving guests at the Fosterdale Grange immediately following the service.
