Local AIDS ride seeking cyclists
SULLIVAN COUNTY — On Saturday
August 24, the second annual Catskills 2002 AIDS Ride
will once again raise funds for the HIV Patient Emergency
Relief Fund at Catskill Regional Medical Center. This
year, ride organizers have made it even easier for
local individuals and groups to participate. In addition
to the 90-, 65- and 45-mile routes, they have added
a 25-mile route that is designed for beginners and
families. Small groups and families can ride and need
to raise only $125 toward the Patient Fund. All meals
and rest stops are included, as well as support and
medical vehicles to make the ride safe and comfortable.
Another change in this year's ride is that it begins
and ends at Catskill Regional Medical Center and volunteers,
food and entertainment will be available throughout
the day at the hospital and along the routes.
Riders will tour some very beautiful
spots in Sullivan County while raising money for the
most important challenge of our time, to improve the
lives of people with HIV/AIDS. For those living with
HIV/AIDS in Sullivan County, it will mean direct,
unrestricted funds to pay for food, clothing and other
unanticipated emergencies that can arise.
All riders and crew/volunteers will
be served breakfast and lunch and dinner and will
have several pit stops in their service. Refreshments,
bike techs, a medical crew, SAG vehicles and supporters
and volunteers from all corners of the region will
be on hand to ensure the ride is successful and rewarding.
Sponsored by Catskill Regional Medical Center and
the Times Herald Record, 100 percent of rider dollars
will provide vital services such as medication, emergency
shelter, food and clothing to women, men and children
living with HIV/AIDS. Local co-sponsors include Catskill
Morning Farm, Elvira Gulch Bike Tours and Events,
M & M Motors, Sullivan County Chamber Of Commerce,
Sullivan County Visitors Association, Forestburgh
Playhouse, The Feast, Type Right, Inc., Bradstan Country
Hotel and Mr. Willy's.
