Narrowsburg firefighters celebrate 100th with a bang

By TOM KANE

NARROWSBURG — Mobs of people turned out to help the Narrowsburg Fire Department celebrate its 100th anniversary. They lined the streets, sat on the roofs of buildings and cheered all the visiting firefighters as they paraded by.

“This was the best parade ever,” said Tom Wood of the fire company, one of the organizers of the event that included a picnic and rides at the Lander’s Campground flats.

Festivities were held on Friday and Saturday, July 5 and 6, with the parade and fireworks on the 6th.

Fireworks at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday elicited Ohs! and Ahs! from residents and visitors.

Over 20 neighboring fire companies, many of their members marching in phalanx and full uniform, and several ambulance corps participated in the parade. The Port Jervis Broome Street Traveling All-Star band marched twice around the parade route, enhancing the festivities with a sparkling military beat.
