Storm hits Shohola

SHOHOLA — An afternoon June 28
storm downed dozens of trees and knocked out electrical
service for hundreds of northern Pike County residents.
Vicious winds accompanied repeated
lightening strikes along German Hill. Resident Bob
Myers said he hasn’t seen winds like that in
all his years living there.
Trees in several areas were shattered
at half their height, looking like a huge weed-whacker
had passed overhead.
Downed trees essentially isolated Shohola
from the rest of the region, as the Twin Lakes and
Lackawaxen Roads were closed by downed trees and wires
along with Route 434.
Shohola supervisor George J. Fluhr
said the township declared a state of emergency to
facilitate the cleanup operation and alleviate the
need for bids for needed equipment or supplies.
Power was not restored until 7:00 a.m.
the following morning.
There were also lesser, sporadic reports
of damage in Highland, Lumberland and surrounding
areas following the storm’s passage.
