JUDITH AUERBACH
TUCSON, AZ — Judith Genden Auerback, a 50-year Smallwood resident,
died April 24, 2002 in Tucson, AZ. She was 78.
She was born in Fallsburg, NY. She was the widow of Norman E.
Auerbach, who died in 1993.
She previously won the Women’s Club Championship at the golf
course in Smallwood, which her sons still own.
Survivors include three sons, Roger and wife Constance, Gary
and wife Christine and Richard “Rick” and wife Julia of Tucson, AZ; six grandchildren;
a sister, Madeline Elkin of Dragoon, AZ; nieces and nephews; a grand-nephew
and a grandniece; and her companion and friend, Lulu Soto.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Bertha and Fanny.
Services and burial were held in Arizona.
FREDERICK LEE DEWEY
LAKE WALES, FL — Frederick Lee Dewey of Lake Wales, FL, a retired
49-year worker for the Erie Railroad, formerly of Port Jervis, Sparrowbush
and Glen Spey, NY, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 at Love and Care in Florida.
He was 96.
He was born March 19, 1906 in Sidney, NY. He was the widower
of Catherine C. Kegler Dewey, who died in 1998.
He was of the Episcopal faith. He was a longtime member of the
BPOE in Lake Wales.
Survivors include a daughter, Regina Hallock of Matlacha, FL;
a son, Regis of Leesburg, FL; a sister, Alice Mason of Port Jervis, NY; grandchildren;
great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home. The Rev.
Thomas Seitz, Jr. officiated. Burial was in Lake Wales Cemetery.

GEORGE W. ELFLEIN
CALLICOON — George W. Elflein of Callicoon, a retired, decorated
lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department, died Saturday, June 29,
2002 after a short illness at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. He
was 78.
Son of John and Katherine Kohler Elflein, he was born February
8, 1924 in Woodhaven, NY.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater
of Operations during World War II. He was an active and enthusiastic member
of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris Baker Elflein;
a sister, Clarice Herrmann of Grahamsville; a brother, John of Murchison,
TX; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Calicoon.
Burial was in the Rock Valley Cemetery in Rock Valley.

LEE E. EDWARDS
HAWLEY — Lee E. Edwards of Hawley, formerly of Stockholm, NJ,
a retired insurance claims manager for Allstate Inc., died Sunday, June 23,
2002 at home. He was 70.
Son of the late Leon E. and Virginia Jennings Edwards, he was
born in White Plains, NY.
He received a BS from Farleigh-Dickinson University in New Jersey.
He was a member of the Lakeville United Methodist Church; S.A.R. Cricket Hill
Golf Club; Boy Scout Advisor; Stockholm, NJ United Methodist Church Men’s
Organization leader and board member.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carole Brown Edwards;
a daughter, Laura Smith of Branchville, NJ; a son, Jeffrey of Sussex, NJ;
a sister, Virginia Lowe of Lynchburg, VA; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in the Lakeville United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Teressa Sivers officiated. Cremation took place at the H.G.
Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

RHODA EPSTEIN
JEFFERSONVILLE — Rhoda Epstein of Jeffersonville, a retired
Sullivan County Community College Computer Support Specialist and longtime
area resident, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at home. She was 64.
Daughter of Betty Heller and the late Israel Heller, she was
born May 24, 1938 in Brooklyn.
She was a graduate of Queens College and had worked previously
at American Airlines, the Sullivan County Department of Social Services and
was a former registrar for Sullivan County Community College. She was a charter
member and past president of the Jeffersonville Public Library; a past president
of the Western Sullivan Public Library and a past president and current trustee
of the Ramapo Catskill Library System. She was also treasurer of Congregation
Ahavath Sholom Synagogue in Jeffersonville and a board member and secretary
of Congregation Ahavath Isreal Synagogue in Liberty.
Survivors include her husband of more than 33 years, Jacob J.
Epstein of Jeffersonville; five children and their families, Russell and Susan
Epstein and their daughter, Hannah; Cynthia Epstein, Aaron and Kim Epstein,
Ilene and Michael Schlank and Sheryl and Dan Gordon; her mother; and a sister,
Baila Mandel and husband Norman.
Services were held at the Jeffersonville Synagogue.

JOSEPH HAMULAK
YULAN — Joseph Hamulak of Yulan, co-owner of the Bear Paw Lodge
in Washington Lake and a 22-year area resident, died Monday, June 24, 2002
at home. He was 86.
Son of the late Michael and Catherine Yatchshyn Hamulak, he
was born January 3, 1916 in Carteret, NJ.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought in the
Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include his nephew Arthur Bozan and wife Jane of Yulan;
a niece, Kathleen Bozan Makarewicz and husband Zigg of Jackson, NJ; a brother,
Michael Hamulak of Clark, NJ; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection was offered at St. Anthony’s Church in
Yulan. The Rev. Evan Greco officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

MITROFAN KOSENKOV
GLEN SPEY — Mitrofan “Mike” Kosenkov of Glen Spey, a retired
member of Window Washer Local #2, New York City, and a longtime area resident,
died Thursday, June 27, 2002 in Nyack Hospital, Nyack. He was 89.
Son of the late Ivan Kosenkov and Basilia Beshilkova Kosenkov,
he was born August 6, 1912 in Valuiki, Russia.
He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church
in Glen Spey.
Survivors include his wife, Emilia Herbko Kosenkov, at home;
a son, Valentine of Milford, PA; three grandchildren, Mikhail, Kristine and
Marya.
The Devine Liturgy was offered at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian
Orthodox Church in Glen Spey. The Rev. Nester Kovel officiated. Burial was
in Glen Spey Cemetery in Glen Spey.
RAKEL B. MARKAO
CALLICOON — Rakel B. Markao of Callicoon, a real estate broker
for The Barbanti Group in Liberty and a longtime area resident, died Sunday,
June 3, 2002 at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 49.
Daughter of Afridii B. Kevii and the late Frank Barrett, she
was born July 26, 1952 in the Bronx.
She was a member of Baithelion Temple in Cochecton and secretary
for Helion Hall, Gheez Academy in Long Eddy (Rock Valley). She was a member
of the Association of Realtors.
Survivors include her husband Samii Markao, at home; her mother
of Cochecton; a son, Zekhai of Endicott; three daughters, Rakel M. Markao
of Jamaica, Adara Markao of Endicott and Howara Markao of Callicoon; two brothers,
Orshii Boldiis of Hankins and Khifodonis Boldiis of Binghamton; three sisters,
Smaida Johnson of Bradenton, FL, Valiliida Niifa of New Haven, CT and Aseda
Rabii of Cochecton; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and
cousins.
Services were held at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial was in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

ROBERT W. MILLER
HAWLEY – Robert W. Miller of Hawley, a self-employed carpenter
and owner of Miller Enterprise in Hawley, died Saturday, June 22, 2002 in
Blooming Grove Township. He was 52.
Son of Ralph and Pauline Fingerle Miller of North Manchester,
IN, he was born in Warsaw, IN.
Survivors include three children, Shawn and Shayna of Lackawaxen
and Ryan Walmer of Ft. Wayne, IN; a brother, William of North Manchester,
IN; a sister, Deeanna Newton of Warsaw, IN; and two grandchildren, Ethan and
Andrew Walmer.
Services were held in the Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Blooming
Grove Township.

DR. ELISEO OZOMEK
CALLICOON — Dr. Eliseo Ozomek of Callicoon, a retired physician,
died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 of cancer. He was 66.
Son of Maria Nahirnak Ozomyk and the late Luis Ozomek, he was
born in Misiones, Argentina.
He graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires
in 1962 with a degree in medicine. He was Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology
at Columbia University in 1988. He held appointments as attending anesthesiologist
at various hospitals throughout the New York area.
Survivors include his wife Renee at home; his mother; his sisters
Carmen Ozomyk Ruiz and Isabel Ozomyk, all of Spain; his brothers, Mario and
Ernesto of Westchester; nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church
in Callicoon. The Rev. Ignatius Smith, O.F.M. officiated. Burial was in St.
Mary’s Cemetery in Obernburg.

GUSTAV T. RANTAS
BARRYVILLE — Gustav T. Rantas of Barryville, a retired bus dispatcher
for MABSTOA in New York City and a 22-year area resident, died Friday, June
21, 2002 at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen.
He was 81.
Son of the late Thomas and Theresa Varga Gougoutris, he was
born July 31, 1920 in New York, NY. He was the widower of the late Doris F.
Lehman Rantas who died in 1994.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Japan. He
was a member of the Shohola Fish and Game Club and life member of the Yulan
Fire Dept.
Survivors include three daughters, Anne Myers of Ridgewood,
NJ, Joan Lynch and husband William of Bradley Beach, NJ and Doris Moore and
husband Michael of Congers, NY; a son, Charles Thomas and wife Leslie of Fairfax,
VA; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Ann’s Church in
Shohola. The Rev. David W. Cramer officiated. Cremation took place at H.G.
Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

MARIE ANTOINETTE SATRIANO
HAWLEY — Marie Antoinette Satriano of Hawley, a retired data
clerk for the New York Fire Dept., died Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Wayne Memorial
Hospital in Honesdale. She was 82.
Daughter of the late Louis and Catherine Sullivan Satriano,
she was born in Brooklyn, NY. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Survivors include three nephews, Mike of Hawley, Joseph of Brooklyn,
NY and Dennis of Long Island, NY.
Services were held at Teeters’ East Chapel in Hawley. Burial
was in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hawley.
EUGENE P. WILEY
MILANVILLE — Eugene P. Wiley of Milanville, a retired police
officer for the Tri-Borough Bridge and Tunnel Authority and area resident
since 1991, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.
He was 61.
Son of Richard and Helen Nugent Wiley, he was born March 4,
1941 in Flushing, NY
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS
Lake Champlain from 1960 to 1962.
Survivors include his wife, Louise at home; a son, Timothy of
Milanville; a sister, Alice Kerr of Bremerton, WA; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Rasmussen Sons Inc. Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.
The Rev. Phyllis Haynes officiated. Cremation took place at Twin Tiers Crematory
in Endicott.

HAWLEY — James B. Wilson of Hawley, a salesman for Joco Camper
Sales in Milford, a million-dollar salesman for three consecutive years, formerly
of Milford, died Monday, June 24, 2002 at home. He was 53.
Son of the late Lester and Vera Desottel Wilson, he was born
in Newark, NJ.
He was a member of Love & Mercy Pentecostal Church in Dingmans
Ferry and attended the New covenant Fellowship Pentecostal Church in Hawley.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Frances M. Jordan Wilson;
a son, James C. of Hawley; a daughter, Danyel Elizabeth of Waymart; a brother,
Rev. Lester of St. Clairsville, OH; three sisters, Marie Wilson of Elizabeth,
NJ, Eileen Vivona of Colonia, NJ and Patricia of Hillside, NJ; a niece and
a nephew.
A memorial service was held in the Family Home in Settlers Village.
Cremation was private at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.
