An extra effort for holiday security REGION — Both New York and Pennsylvania are extending security provisions for the first post-9/11 Independence Day celebration. New York Governor George Pataki on July 2 announced coordinated plans between state, federal and city law enforcement to beef up security for the holiday weekend. The plans will include an increased number of uniformed state police troopers at holiday events throughout the state. Pennsylvania Governor Mark Schweiker convened a June 27 meeting of the Commonwealth’s Security Council to plan for holiday precautions. |
