Edu-tainment at SCCC
LOCH SHELDRAKE — Sullivan County
Community College will once again present its edu-tainment
lecture series, “Wednesdays at Sullivan.”
The series, which is free and open to the public,
features a variety of topics from music to art to
humor.
The series begins on July 10 with “The
Art of the Cantor,” with Jack Merlis. On July
17, Esterita “Cissie” Blumberg shares
stories about “Growing Up in the Catskills.”
Jonathan Karp presents “Origins and Impact of
Hasidism” on July 24 and Terry McGrath conveys
“The Essence of Humor” on July 31.
Broadway aficionados will enjoy Marty
Kupferberg’s “Lerner and Loewe”
on August 7. On August 14, Len Rosendahl will be
“Demystifying Modern Art” and on August
21, Norman Garfield presents “The World of Sholom
Aleichem.”
All lectures begin at 2:00 p.m. in
the college’s Seelig Theatre. Refreshments,
courtesy of ShopRite of Monticello, will be served
prior to the lectures at 1:00 p.m.
Due to limited seating capacity, tickets
will be required for entry. They will be available
at 12:00 noon in the SCCC Campus Activities Office
(located in the “H” Building) on the day
of the lecture. There is a one-ticket-per-person limit.

Norris goes
national
LIBERTY — Sullivan County BOCES
Health Academy student, Leona Norris, who is also
a senior at Liberty Central High School, will compete
in the First Aid/CPR contest at the National Skills
USA Championship at the H. Roe Bartle Conference Center
in Kansas City, MO. The competition, which is sponsored
by the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (Skills
USA-VICA), will take place at the end of June. Norris
earned the right to compete as a result of her first
place finish in the New York State competition, held
earlier this year. Sullivan BOCES Health Academy instructor
Candy Gatta will accompany Norris to the national
contest, where she will join more than 4,000 students
from all across the country who will be competing
in over 70 occupational and leadership skill areas.
Nearly 60 Sullivan County BOCES students
are members of the local Skills USA-VICA organization,
which provides quality education experiences for students
in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character
development.
