Organization and regular meeting

CALLICOON — The Sullivan West Central School Board of Education will hold their organization and first regular meeting of the new school year on Tuesday, July 9 at the Delaware Valley Campus of Sullivan West. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.






Big Mac scholarships

NARROWSBURG — McDonald’s New York Tri-State restaurant owners are offering $25,000 in scholarships to local college-bound high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding leadership in community service. Through the new McDonald’s “Serve Your Community” scholarship program, local McDonald’s owners will award five $5,000 scholarships to New York Tri-State area students who best express through an essay, how they bring McDonald’s mission “to give back to the communities where you live” to life.

To be eligible, students must be a present high school senior attending college during the fall semester of 2002. The essay, the student’s community service record and financial need will be evaluated when selecting the five recipients. Students can download a McDonald’s “Serve Your Community” scholarship application on www.madonaldsnymetro.com/earn. The scholarship deadline is July 10.






New student registration

WESTFALL TOWNSHIP — Delaware Valley schools open on Monday, August 26. Now is the time to register new students for the new school year. New student registration for the Delaware Valley School District requires specific information be provided and a number of forms be completed at the time of registration. No student will be enrolled in school until all required forms and documents have been properly completed and submitted.

For more information call the Office of Support Services at 570/296-1883. During the month of July, registration is open every Tuesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.






Thatcher is honored

EAST STROUDSBURG — John Thatcher, an East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania alumnus and associate professor, program director and one of the developers of ESU’s Athletic Training Education Program, received the Sayers “Bud” Miller Distinguished Athletic Training Educator Award from the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) on Monday, June 17. The award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an athletic training educator.






Baxter receives National Award

LIBERTY — The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Megan Baxter has been recognized for her achievement as a National Leadership and Service Award winner.

Baxter, who attends Liberty High School, will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, which is published nationally. The USAA National Leadership and Service Awards provide students with many benefits and services and is a great tribute to a student’s dedication, talent and ability.

Megan is the daughter of George and Maggie Baxter of Liberty. Her grandmother is Dolores Townley of Circleville, NY.






Congratulations to Lauer

LAPLUME — Dawn Lauer graduated on May 18 from Keystone College with Magna Cum Laude honors and an Associate in Arts degree in Sports and Recreation Management. Magna Cum Laude recipients must obtain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 -3.79. Lauer also received The Academic Division Outstanding Student award in Sports and Recreation Management. She plans to return to Keystone for two more years to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree.

Lauer is the daughter of Ron and Pat Lauer of Shohola.






Coriaty and Formato earn Dean’s recognition

ALFRED — Matthew Coriaty of Narrowsburg and Dominick Formato, Jr. of Roscoe have made the Dean’s List for the spring 2002 semester, announced Dr. John M. Anderson, provost and academic vice president at Alfred State College.

Alfred State College offers associate degrees in close to 60 programs in the fields of agriculture, health, business, vocational, and engineering technology, as well as liberal arts and sciences.






Michell graduates

POTSDAM — Clarkson University on May 12 awarded bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees to more than 500 students from 24 states. Robert G. Michell of Narrowsburg, received a BS with Great Distinction in Physics. He is the son of Kathleen Michell of Narrowburg and Peter Michell of Oakland, CA.
