Eagle’s Nest development planned
in Tusten

NARROWSBURG — Another land use
plan with a twist of public interest is Robert Wiegers’
planned Eagle’s Nest Estates subdivision off
Route 97 in the Ten Mile River area.
Wiegers, a 25-year area resident, says
he bought 146.5 acres overlooking the Delaware in
January of this year, and thought the property had
an abandoned eagle’s nest on it.
It does, but he soon discovered that
it also has an active nest. With plans to develop
in mind, “as soon as we discovered it, we called
the DEC [NYS Department of Environmental Conservation],”
he said.
He and eagle specialist Peter Nye,
from the agency, have been in touch since then. Nye
gave him some photographs from the nest, which Wiegers
said is already within 300 feet of some existing dwellings.
He said the agency made no demands and he has no plans
to disturb the nest. “We’re looking forward
to each other’s cooperation,” he said.
With some highway access issues to
be worked out, Wiegers’ subdivision is still
in the early sketch plan status. The subdivision is
being planned with deed restrictions that require
that only 2,400 square feet or larger log or log-sided
homes be built. “I want to be as conservative
as I possibly can. My property adjoins this acreage
and I want to preserve the natural beauty of the valley,”
said Wiegers.
