Memorial
Day lesson
LIBERTY — Students in Jeffrey
Root’s kindergarten class at the White Sulphur
Springs Primary School recently got a history lesson
on why Memorial Day is celebrated in the U.S.
The kindergarten students learned about
personal memorials as well as war memorials. The students
also discussed the tragedy of September 11. Making
the experience more real-life, the students and Mr.
Root handcrafted their own World Trade Center Memorial,
which shed light on the entire meaning of Memorial
Day.
In addition to discussing the importance
of Memorial Day and creating their own World Trade
Center Memorial, the students wrote a letter to President
George Bush regarding their class project as well
as a photograph of the class standing next to their
memorial.
