Summer soccer program
HONESDALE — The Honesdale Soccer
Club will conduct their Eighth Annual Soccer Day Camp
June 24 to 28 at the Honesdale High School soccer
fields, located behind the Lakeside Elementary School.
The morning session is 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for
girls and boys ages five years through and including
those entering eighth grade in the fall. The afternoon
session is 5:00 to 8.00 p.m. for players entering
ninth grade through 18 years. The camp will be directed
by Isang Jacob, former Nigerian national and professional
soccer player and current assistant men’s varsity
coach at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis.
The youth player curriculum will emphasize individual
skill development and small group tactics. Match related
tactics, teamwork and conditioning will be disguised
as fun through the use of games and micro soccer.
The advanced high school training will emphasize technical
and tactical development under pressure of an opponent,
restarts, functional training by position and systems
of play. A goalkeeper clinic will be conducted during
camp hours.
The camp fee is $90, $25 extra for
keeper clinic. Campers will receive a soccer ball
and a tee shirt. For the convenience of working parents
only, the camp coordinator will be on site at 7:45
a.m. Parents are required to notify the camp coordinator.
For more information or to obtain a
camp application, call 570/729-8458.
Bartenders to
race
MONTICELLO — It can’t be
compared to the Kentucky Derby. Nor is it as recognizable
as the Florida Derby. However, Monticello Raceway’s
Bartenders Derby, a race for driving mixologists,
is not only a fun event but looked forward to each
year, especially by those who compete in it.
The event is on Sunday, June 16. On
that date bartenders from near and far will be trading
in their swizzle sticks for a perch on a seat behind
a spirited steed and race to the finish in the 10th
edition of the event.
Last year, two divisions of the Bartenders
Derby were contested . Heather Gilmour, representing
The Perfecta Bar in Monticello, won her division with
a pacer nick-named Fuzzy Navel in 2:05:2 while Harold
Montayne, from Frankie’s Sports Bar in Monticello,
took the other division in 2:06:2, driving Rob Roy.
Any mixologist or tavern owner interested
in competing must contact Monticello Raceways public
relations department at 845/794-4100, ext. 455.
Before anyone participates, he or she
must practice with trainers in their immediate area.
