Cat burglars
operating in Pike
By PAT CAMUSO
DINGMAN TOWNSHIP — The Pennsylvania
State Police are investigating three separate burglaries
that took place in one gated community as the occupants
of the homes slept.
State police in Blooming Grove say
the incidents took place during the overnight hours
of June 3 in Sunrise Lake Estates in Dingman Township.
According to investigating officer
Peter Matyjevich, one house is the weekend home of
72-year-old Carlo Origlio of Pennington, New Jersey.
As the thieves gained entry, Origlio was asleep in
his bedroom. Two visitors, 75-year-old Michael Dimarco
and his wife, 72-year-old Rose Marie Dimarco of Toms
River, New Jersey, were fast asleep in a guest bedroom.
Matyjevich said they have determined
that the crime took place sometime between midnight
and 2:00 a.m. He believes that one or more intruders
made their way into the guest room and removed various
“personal items” without waking the couple.
The intruders fled the scene without
being discovered by the sleeping occupants.
During the same general time period,
the Wild Meadow Drive home of Heidi Buchwald was broken
into as she slept. According to Trooper Richard Bozym,
the thieves gained entry to the Buchwald home by prying
open the front door. He explained that they were able
to take approximately $600 in cash before arousing
the owner and being scared off.
Approximately three miles from the
Buchwald residence, the Hillside Drive home of Erick
Velez was also broken in to. Bozym said here the intruders
gained entry by way of a bathroom window as Velez
slept in an upstairs bedroom. The thieves took $250
in cash along with the keys to Velez’s car.
According to Bozym, the thieves then
broke into the car, stealing a set of speakers from
the trunk before fleeing the scene. None of the occupants
of the three homes were injured during the burglaries.
