ANDREW W. DUDLEY

HONESDALE — Andrew W. Dudley of Honesdale died Thursday, June 6, 2002 in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. He was 67.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Joan D. Hessberger Dudley.

Services were private. The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Homedale, officiated. Burial was in Glen Dyberry Cemetery in Honesdale.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Honesdale Volunteer Ambulance Corp. or the Wayne County Unit of the American Cancer Society.

ELSIE C. FRY

HAWLEY – Elsie C. Fry of Hawley died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was 68.

Daughter of the late Emery Kovacs and Lena Balek, she was born in Bethlehem.

She was a member of the Church at Hemlock Farms in Hawley and a member of the Hemlock Farms Fire & Rescue Auxiliary in Hawley.

Survivors include her husband, James W. Fry; a daughter, Sharon Donchetz of Hawley; a son, Edward of Edison, NJ; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 11:00 a.m. in the Church at Hemlock Farms. The Rev. Robert Duncan Jr. will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pike County Humane Society, PO Box 255, Milford, PA 18337 or an animal charity of one’s choice.

JACK GUTKNECHT

HONESDALE — Jack Gutknecht, formerly of Honesdale, an employee of Exide Battery for many years, died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was 84.

He was born in Pittsburgh.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marie W. Wheeler Gutknecht; two sons, Bob and wife Debbie and Jim and wife Maryanne; two daughters, Ruth Ann Walker and husband Norman and Lois Kohrt and husband Alan; and nine grandchildren.

DOROTHY M. KNAPP

GLEN SPEY — Dorothy Knapp of Glen Spey, a lifelong area resident, retired from the Horton Medical Center in Middletown, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at the Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 85.

Daughter of the late Charles and Mary Leutz Terwilliger, she was born September 20, 1916 in Pine Bush. She was the widow of Elwin H. Knapp.

She was a member of the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in Otisville.

Survivors include a son, Allen and wife Phyllis of Glen Spey; a brother, Charles L. Terwilliger of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Donald Worzel Jr.

Services were held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis. The Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst and the Rev. Jeffrey Farley officiated. Burial was in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.

ROSE LYNN

HAWLEY — Rose Lynn of Hawley died Sunday, June 5, 2002 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 82.

Daughter of the late Samuel and Sara Klein Goldberg, she was born in the Bronx, NY. She was the widow of Leo Lynn.

She was a member of the Mogen-Abraham Family Society and enjoyed senior citizen activities, especially bingo.

Survivors include a daughter, Shelley Lynn Nar; and two grandchildren, Leif and Gaimi Nar.

She was predeceased by a brother, Calman Goldberg.

Graveside services were held in the Beth-David Cemetery in Elmont, Long Island, NY.

ROGER E. MOHRMANN

LIBERTY — Roger E. Mohrmann of Liberty, a retired lineman with the New York State Electric and Gas Company and a lifelong area resident, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 16, 2002 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 68.

Son of Richard and Helene Ammer Mohrmann of Beach Lake, he was born February 20, 1934. He was the widower of Joan Spettigue Mohrmann.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge No. 11545 and held office as its Deer Hide Chairman for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen Mohrmann, of Liberty; a son, Todd, of Albany; a daughter, Sandra Kehrley and husband Daniel of Rockaway; his mother-in-law, Gladys Spettigue of Narrowsburg; five brothers, Richard of Nashua, NH, Harold of Shreveport, LA, Joseph of Piedmont, SC, Douglas of Lansdale and Gene of Honesdale; a sister, Lucille Leininger of Queens Village; and a granddaughter.

Services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Knutsen officiated. Burial was in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg, with full military honors.

JESSE G. PAYNE

FERNDALE — Jesse G. Payne of Ferndale, a retired self-employed laborer and foreman, died Friday, June 7, 2002 at home. He was 62.

Son of Oakley and Carrie Holsinger Payne, he was born August 11, 1939 in Granville, OH.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Catherine Coote Payne; two sons, Joseph Walsh and wife Sandy of NC and John Payne and wife Christie of Neversink; five daughters, Colleen Walsh of WV, Coreen Ferber and husband Joseph of Bethel, Joanne Walsh of Livingston Manor, Kathi Avery of Syracuse and Robin Payne of Ferndale; a brother, Charlie Payne of Monroe; a sister, Loretta of Monroe; and 15 grandchildren.

Services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty.

ROBERT ROY PERRY

HONESDALE — Robert Roy Perry of Honesdale, a self employed painter and lifelong area resident, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at home. He was 65.

Son of the late Russell and Louise Bayly Perry, he was born February 28, 1937 in Honesdale.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include his former wife, Linda Ward Hooper of Honesdale; two sons, Scott Robert of White Mills and Russell Ward of White Mills; two daughters, Dawn L. Carmody of Honesdale and Bobbi Lynn Eldred of Tyler Hill; a brother, Russell of Arkansas; four sisters, June Rogan of Waymart, Carol Perry of Oregon, Dawn Kielar of Waymart, and Beverly Bunting of Honesdale; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson of Honesdale.

He was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Sheehan.

Memorial services were held at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. Albert A. Chaffee of the First Presbyterian Church of Honesdale officiated.

GARY ROSENBERGER

CALLICOON — Gary Rosenberger of Callicoon, a former U.S. Mail Carrier for the Equinunk, PA and Callicoon routes and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. He was 66.

Son of the late George and Ester Long Rosenberger, he was born August 6, 1935 in Callicoon.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Heidelberg, Germany; he served in the Army Reserves and was a 39-year member of the Hortonville Volunteer Fire Department. He was past president of the Tamarack Farm Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Ann Gettel Rosenberger, at home; two sons, Scott Anthony and wife Lisa of Callicoon and Jeffrey Allen and wife Judy of Basye, VA; a daughter, Penny Ann Ackermann and husband Timothy of Cochecton; a sister, Ellen Pollack of Dunnellon, FL; a brother, Carl of Hortonville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Ann.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon. Rev. Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
