Statement by William
“Bill” Erdman
I have resided in Jeffersonville
all of my 58 years. My wife Sharon and
I have four grown children and nine grandchildren.
We have a grandchild attending the Delaware
Valley campus and another who will start
in a few years. I recently retired from
Verizon.
I was a member of the Town
of Callicoon Youth Board for over 10 years,
a past master of the Callicoon Lodge of
Free and Accepted Masons and a volunteer
for Little League. I’m a member of the
Town of Callicoon Planning Board.
I became a member of the
school board 10 years ago and experienced
a major building project. After the merger,
I was honored to be elected to a three-year
seat on the Sullivan West district board.
We have gone through the
bumps and bruises of putting together
a new and better educational system for
our children. Nothing in the world is
perfect, but I truly feel we should all
be proud of what has happened.
There is still much to
be done, and I remind you that I have
always tried to keep honesty and integrity
firsthand in all decisions. I publicly
thank you for your past and future support.

Statement by Jerry Smith
I currently live with my
wife and son in the Beechwoods area of
Callicoon. I am a graduate of Delaware
Valley Central School and Empire State
College. I have been the Director of Weights
and Measures for Sullivan County for the
past 17 years.
I have been a supporter
of the concept of unifying our three school
districts into one from the beginning.
I believe that the challenge facing our
school board now is to make decisions
and to behave in a way that reinforces
this notion that we are now one school
district with the common goal of providing
the best opportunities for our children.
With the creation of our
new high school in Lake Huntington, we
have a unique opportunity to start out
fresh, demanding excellence at every level.
I believe that I have the skills and objectivity
to help us realize this goal.

Statement by Angela
Daley
Doing something about our
children’s education is one of the most
important ways to serve my community.
I’d like to ensure our students reap the
most promised benefits of our merged district:
more courses and learning opportunities
at all levels. Every child should be able
to say there was something about school
they liked.
My ideal is for excellence
from the most valuable asset we have:
our K-12 teachers and administrators.
I have always asked questions,
and have always presented concerns from
the public to the school board and administration.
I bring almost six years of school board
experience to the election. I continue
to attend board meetings.
Children’s needs and interests
should come first. This year I am seeking
a school board position because the actions
of some of the present members do not
reflect my goal of “children first.”
Exercise your American
right and privilege to vote!

Statement by Carol Nearing
I have been a school board
member for over 10 years. I served on
the Jeffersonville-Youngsville board and
the Sullivan West school board.
I served on various committees
during my tenure on the board and also
served as president of the Jeffersonville-Youngsville
board and the Sullivan West board.
The present school board
has many unfinished projects to bring
to closure. I feel my past years of experience
will be a benefit to the people of the
Sullivan West school district.
I have always demonstrated
my eagerness and willingness to work with
other school board members and have always
put the needs of the children first.
Please come out and vote
on your school budget on May 21, from12:00
to 9:00 p.m. and thank you for your support.

Statement by Linda Pomes
I was born in Callicoon,
New York. I am married to Dick Pomes.
We have two sons, Matt, a student at Sullivan
West at Jeffersonville, and Mike, a student
at the Narrowsburg campus.
After graduating from Narrowsburg
Central, I attended Castleton State College,
in Vermont. I began teaching at Port Jervis
High School and continued my studies at
Middlebury College, Vermont, earning a
M.A. in Spanish. After 10 years of teaching
in Port Jervis, I accepted a position
in Eldred where I continue today.
With the Delaware Valley
Missy Softball League I was a coach, umpire
and director for many years. For more
than 10 years, I have been an assistant
coach or head coach of AYSO soccer and
two years ago became the AARC for the
Narrowsburg area.
I have 10 years of school
board experience, serving on the Narrowsburg
and BOCES boards. As a board member, my
colleagues elected me as vice-president
and president, attesting to their confidence
in my leadership skills. Those years of
board membership also involved many meetings
of merger studies, so I consider myself
well versed in the history, pitfalls and
potential of success for the merger. As
a concerned parent and taxpayer, I have
attended many meetings in the years since
I left the board.
As a board member, I will
continue to work for all the children
of the Sullivan West district. Thank you
for your support on Tuesday, May 21.

Statement by Donna Sauer-Jones
My goal the last three
years, as a member of the Sullivan West
school board, was to bring forward the
vision of the merger. It took countless
hours to appoint head positions, secure
our education direction and establish
our architecture and construction firms
to guide our facilities project. With
hard work we have moved ahead on renovations
as well as the high school. That portion
of the merger—to keep the elementary students
in the heart of their communities while
the high school students occupy a beautiful
new centralized high school—is well on
the way.
For the next three years
I am dedicated the other promise of the
merger, which is to bring excellence to
education in our district. There is much
to be done. We need the best administrators
and principals. They are the people who
tenure our teachers. We need to establish
an educational vision for each child as
well as a plan on how we are going to
make them reach their highest goals. We
need to ensure that policies are working
for the students and positively affecting
their behavior. We need acceleration,
remediation, electives and more. I am
dedicated to making Sullivan West the
best district it can be.
