GRACE W. CRANDALL

LANCASTER — Grace W. Candall of Lancaster, a homemaker, formerly of Kauneonga Lake and Monticello, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at home. She was 65.

Daughter of the late William and Phyllis Smith Williams, she was born June 16, 1936 in Kauneonga Lake.

She was a graduate of Monticello High School and Broome County Technical Institute where she earned a degree as a laboratory technician.

Survivors include a sister, Ione Williams Albrecht of White Lake; two sons, Steven of Parkesburg and Scott of Bristol; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Heather Crandall, both of Solebury; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation was private.

Joseph Adams Dweck

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — Joseph A. Dweck, formerly of Lake DeVenoge, NY passed away Friday, April 19, 2002 after a brief illness. He was 98.

Born in Harlem, NY on August 15, 1903, Mr. Dweck was a managing partner of Harris Upham in New York City, which later evolved into Smith Barney. His life was spent enjoying, loving and caring for his family. He was known throughout the community as “father” and was a friend and grandfather to all. He is survived by his loving daughter, Phyllis Comiskey and her husband Donald, of Peachtree City, with whom he resided; three grandchildren, Donna Loeffler and her husband David, of Peachtree City; Philip (Willie) Comiskey and his wife Monique, of Peachtree City; Karen Harrington and her husband Dan, of Peachtree City; and three great-grandchildren, Shaelyn Comiskey, Clara Comiskey and Daniel Harrington. We take solace in that we had so many years together. He will be missed.

WALTER H. KRAEFT

GREELEY — Walter H. Kraeft of Camelot Forest in Greeley, a 24-year area resident, and retired accountant for WR Grace-Shipping Co. in New York City, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center in Lake Ariel. He was 84.

Son of the late Herman Kraeft and Minnie Youngling Kraeft, he was born in North Bergen, NJ.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He attended Seton Hall College. He was a member of Jehovah Witness in Milford where he served many years with the Milford Congregation and served previously with Jehovah Witness in Edison/Metchen, NJ.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Carol Kraeft of Greeley; a daughter, Linda Kraeft; two sons, Jeffrey and Greg; and a stepson, James.

Memorial services were held at The Riverview Inn in Matamoras. Cremation took place at the H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

JOHN G. KYPRIANOU

MONTICELLO — John G. Kyprianou of Monticello, a restaurateur and owner of Blue Horizon in Monticello, died Friday, May 10, 2002 at home. He was 40.

Son of George and Anastasia Orountiodi Kyprianou, he was born February 9, 1962 in Famagusta, Cyprus.

He was a member and past president of the Pangregorian Association and a member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife, Maria E. Niforatos Kyprianou, at home; his parents; three brothers, Kypro and family of New Milford, CT, Christos and family of Cyprus and Peter and family of Rock Hill; two aunts, Androula Andreou and family of West Orange, NJ and Loula Soteriou and family of Australia; his father- and mother-in-law, Steve and Elli Niforatos of Roscoe; and his brother-in-law, Tasse Niforatos and family of Roscoe.

A funeral Mass was held at the St. Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in Roscoe. Fathers Peter Karloutsos, John Spilios and Chris Talleos officiated. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60018 or a charity of one’s choice.

DEBORAH A. OLSON

HAWLEY — Deborah A. Olson of Hawley, a designer for the Honesdale Greenhouses until taking ill in February, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at home. She was 51.

Daughter of Evelyn A. Loris Lawler of East Hampton, NY and the late James P. Lawler, she was born in Southampton, NY.  She was the widow of Robert R. Olson who died in 1999.

She was a graduate of the East Hampton High School and attended Lackawanna College for two years. She was a floral designer by trade and has worked in local flower shops since moving here from Long Island.

Survivors include a son, Christopher and wife Kellie of Hawley; a daughter, Tanum Olson of Hawley; three brothers, James, Richard and Robert Lawler, all of East Hampton, NY; a granddaughter, Kassandra; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. F. Graham Cliff, pastor of Grace Episcopal Parish in Honesdale, officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Unit of the American Cancer Society, Honesdale or Memorial Slone Kettering in New York City.

ADRIAN PEKAAR

HONESDALE — Adrian Pekaar of Honesdale, a resident of Dyberry Township, a retired parts chaser and truck driver for PennDOT, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Texas Township in Honesdale. He was 80.

Son of the late Edward and Alice Bonn Pekaar, he was born in Garfield, NJ.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre of Action and was involved with the Normandy Invasion. He attended St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church in Jermyn.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen Franchak Pekaar; two sons, Adrian of Saddlebrook, NJ and Daniel of Melrose, FL; a daughter, Diane Bugaj of Honesdale; a sister, Laura Kellner of West Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren; two step-grandsons; a step-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Erica Bugaj; three brothers, Neil, Louis and William; and three sisters, Nellie, Adrianna and Elizabeth.

Services were held at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Orthodox Burial Service by the Very Reverend Archpriest John Kowalczyk and Rev. Deacon Gabriel Petorak officiated. Burial was in St. Mary Magdalen’s Cemetery in Honesdale.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Russian Orthodox Church, 305 Walnut St., Jermyn, PA 18433.

LINDA P. RUGGIERO

TAMPA, FL — Linda P. Ruggiero of Tampa, FL, formerly of Jeffersonville, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 in Tampa. She was 42.

Daughter of Inge Hoppe Pfanstiel and Hugo Pfanstiel, she was born May 2, 1959 in Nyack, NY.

Survivors include her mother; a brother, Chris Pfanstiel, both of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Kimberly; a son, Anthony Jr., both of Tampa; and a granddaughter of Florida.

Cremation was private.

VICTOR WARHAFTIG

MONTICELLO — Victor Warhaftig of Monticello, a food inspector for the USFDA and a longtime area resident, died Friday, May 10, 2002 in Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 75.

Son of the late Jacob Warhaftig and Gertrude Dorfman Warhaftig, he was born April 11, 1927 in Elizabeth, NJ.

He was a Navy veteran of  World War II where he served as a CB.

Survivors include his mother, Gertrude, who is 103 years old, of Hackensack, NJ; his wife, Dolores (Dolly) Arnold Warhaftig, at home; a son, Jacob of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Chareise of Oswego; two sisters, Adeline Grossman and Florence Burgum, both of Hackensack, NJ.

Graveside services were held in Beth-El Cemetery in Westwood, NJ.

RITA C. VOGT

HONESDALE — Rita C. Vogt of Honesdale, office manager for the NE Division of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in New York City for many years, died Monday, May 6, 2002 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.

Daughter of the late Robert and Madge Ennis Clark, she was born in Brooklyn, NY. Due to their early death she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Joseph and Carrie Ennis.

She was a graduate of Honesdale High School. She graduated from the Merchants and Bankers School and studied at the New York Institute of Finance. She then became a stockbroker and was registered on the New York Stock Exchange with the firm of Loeb-Rhoades and Company, and resumed work with them with them after returning to Honesdale. Upon retirement she accepted a position with the former Farmers & Merchants Bank in Honesdale. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Vogt of Honesdale, with whom she resided.

She was predeceased by her brother, Leo Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
