Charlie Knapp Sr. received a 55-year pin for active service and got to cut the cake at the formal dinner at Woodloch Springs to commemorate the Narrowsburg Fire Department’s 100th anniversary. Sullivan County Deputy Fire Coordinator and Liberty Supervisor Richard Martinkovic was the keynote speaker. Over 100 people attended the gala, which featured service pins for all, an unique ice sculpture, proclamations from governmental officials, and good old-fashioned fire department camaraderie and humor. Postal Service releases NFD 100th stamp

By TOM KANE

NARROWSBURG — To commemorate its 100th anniversary, the Narrowsburg Fire Department was presented with a special pictorial postmark by the U.S. Postal Service last Saturday, May 4.

The postmark, which will be available at the Narrowsburg post office until June 14, was especially designed for the occasion.

In addition, the postal service is offering commemorative envelopes to mark the event, which will include artwork and a brief narrative.

A ceremony marking the occasion was held at the firehouse at 230 Bridge Street at 10:00 a.m.

Residents may also have a personal item—with first-class postage affixed—cancelled with the postmark through June 4.

The fire department is planning a July 6 celebration on Fireman’s Field.
