World’s biggest disc golf day
PROMPTON LAKE — The summer season of
disc golf events will begin with the World’s Biggest
Disc Golf Day, scheduled for Sunday, May 5 at the
Prompton Lake Disc Golf Course from 10:00 a.m. until
5:00 p.m. Disc golf is a non-competitive event that
allows both beginning and experienced disc golfers
to enjoy a relaxing round of golf at the Prompton
Lake course.
World’s Biggest Disc Golf Day is a
national event held yearly at courses all over the
U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia. Over 20,000 players
worldwide are expected to participate. For a registration
fee of $12, participants will receive a professional
quality golf disc of their choice and a t-shirt with
this year’s logo.
The main goal of World’s Biggest is
to introduce the sport of disc golf to new players.
The game consists of throwing a disc from a tee pad,
accurately throwing to approach the basket and landing
the putt into a metal basket. No one cares about scores
during World’s Biggest—it’s all about fun.
The rules of disc golf are similar
to ball golf. There are 18 holes with pars ranging
from three to five. Each hole has a longer, professional
tee pad and a shorter, amateur tee pad, ideal for
beginners. Not only is it a fun and challenging sport,
but it’s also a great excuse to get outside and exercise
a bit. The game can be played by people of all ages
and ability levels and is inexpensive—requiring only
a disc to get started. There is no charge to use the
Prompton Lake course.
Register on site from 10:00 a.m. until
5:00 p.m. A prize is awarded to the person who brings
the most new players to the course. There will also
be a raffle for items including a portable disc golf
basket worth $150.
Prompton Lake Disc Golf Course is located
four miles west of Honesdale off Route 170 in Prompton
State Park.
