Park ground-breaking
ELDRED — Members of the 2002 Highland
Renaissance group are pictured April 29 as they broke
ground for this year’s beautification project on Eldred
corners.
The group, including students and faculty
from Eldred Central School, the Highland Senior Citizens,
the town board and other residents, is tackling rehabilitation
of the four-corners intersection as this summer’s
project. On land owned by the DeCumber family opposite
the town hall, the group plans to restore a stone
retaining wall, creating a mini park behind it with
two lamp post, fruit trees and planters. A large circular
stone planter will also be built, closer to the intersection.
The group won a grant of $1,000 from
Sullivan Renaissance and expect to raise $14,000 more
to cover project costs. Fundraising activities include
a May 11 tree and shrub truckload sale at the site
and on May 31, Peck’s Market will pick the winning
ticket for the $500 Super Market Sweep.
See Bob Burrow, Rose Paolini, Bob Skibinski,
J.P. Gunther, Stephanie Venturini, Jamie Fountain,
Kate DeVoe or Kristen Bliefernich for sweep tickets.
