As soon as the students and faculty left the Narrowsburg building for their two-week spring break, additional workers appeared to supplement the group that had been working in the school at night for some weeks.

With one week of the break past, the workers have finished much of the demolition, begun building the space for the elevator, completed the electrical, plumbing and heating rough-in work and begun the interior finishes, spackling and painting.

A new roofing system will be 80 percent complete.

“We expect to meet our deadlines,” said project manager Scott Bridie of Turner construction.

The entire reconstruction will cost $4.8 million, he said.

When the students leave in June, the reconstruction will be completed during the summer.

“The scheduled asbestos abatement work for this phase of the project has been completed without any issues,” Bridie said.

Any construction debris or dust will be remediate before the end of spring recess in time for the children to occupy the school, he said.
